So today I decided was a good day to put my Eibachs in my coupe. The process was a b**** (one strut just wouldnt cooperate with us) but all in all definitely worth it. I love the drop and as far as "ride quality" goes if anyone has ever said (and im sure someone has) that these springs make the ride s*** well there just a plain p****. Personally I love the cars ride even more now. I feel 10X more connected to the steering and the road (I cant imagine how coils would feel)

Definitely a great buy (if youre on a budget) I wont lie, the drop isnt HUGE so if youre considering buying them please dont expect that. But for how much they cost compared to coils I think theyre a great buy!
Plus these springs still have to settle so i figure I have about 0.3-0.5" to go down a little further

Heres pics from the day. Mostly before and after but one is from during the process.
(Befores on the left and afters on the right but im sure you can tell the difference)

Also for the experts out there, everyone has said that I should get an alignment immediately following the spring installation but I took the car out onto the interstate took the car up to 80 (mph) let go of the wheel and it ran straighter than it had before the springs were installed. Very confusing :wtf2:

OREALY?! Ive said that numerous times. Give it 6 months, you will too.
EDIT: If you are referring to handling, yes you might experience a slight improvement. As far as actual ride quality in terms of comfort goes, see you later.

As for the alignment, just because you "feel" that the car is aligned because it is going straight, it doesnt mean it is aligned. You have to realize that there is more than 1 component to alignment, and they can be WAY off without you even knowing it.

Didnt mean to offend just a personal opinion. Perhaps it will change over time but for now I back that statement.
Not meaning to offend you DJ because you have always been a help here. I think what ill do as far as the alignment goes is to just watch the tires very very closely and if there is any odd or uneven wear to them ill go within the hour but as for now I feel it would be a waste of $80 (f*** Florida)

Haha DJ's just being crazy. Doubt he took any offense. I would probably get an alignment a week or 2 later after the springs have finished settling. Or you can be like DJ (or is it wade??) And get an alignment in a week, and then another in the month after the springs "truly" finish settling :p

No offense taken, and also not being crazy. Just speaking from experience. Better to be preventative than repentative.

I got an alignment 3 weeks after Eibachs(my installer rcommended it). I went to Midas and the front end needed adjustment, back wheels were fine. Midas hd new alignment machine that did not need to put it on a rack. Sears would not do it because I lowered it.
I recommend an alignment.

I think it was good. Discount Tire never told me my tires were wearing uneven so yeah. Never had problems

I didn't get an alignment either, but now that I have the springs on for about a month, the car definitely needs an alignment.
As far as the ride quality, you will have a better feeling of the road, maybe you've been driving on smooth roads. BUT what about speed bumps? don't you feel that the ride is stiffer?!

Well I never said that I didnt! Its definitely stiffer but I love that! It just felt too floaty before imo.
Is your hood plasti-dipped?

I wonder why no one ever gets the Tein springs? Lower drop and a little cheaper. Or are Eibachs just better quality?

Perhaps the million mile warranty and nobody wants to scrape. I'm just going to try and save up for a set of coil overs. (fat chance with the job I have :()

Plus it was extremely difficult to find them for the 2.5 (still not sure if they even exist)

Ok, I have to ask, whats different between the 2.5 and 3.5 springs? I assume it has something to do with height or diameter or springs.

And anyone heard of Vogtland springs?

Where does it say its for the 2.5s? Unless they fit both, thats what I wanted to know. But from what I read, the springs are different. I is confoosed.

They only make it for the 3.5 as far as I know. I assume there is a difference between the springs due to a weight difference in the vehicles.

You sould get an alignment following the installation of new springs or coilover systems. Even though you car is running straight, your wheels might have uneven camber. Camber is the angle of the tire against the ground. Uneven or extreme camber will cause uneven wear on the tires and high stress on the struts.

Here is an example of extreme negative camber:

Image

When you lower a car, the wheels' camber tends to become more negative.

There's also toe, where toe-in is where the front wheels point towards each other, and toe-out where the front wheels pont out.

And finally caster, or the angle to which the steering axis is tilted forward or rearward from vertical, as viewed from the side.

There are a lot of factors other than whether the car drives straight or not. You're going to put a lot of unneeded stress on your suspension by forgoing an alignment.

get an alignment once the springs settle......I forgot to when I installed my springs and essentially ruined my rear tires about 20k miles pre-mature because my rear toe was way off. The car drove straight but the rear tires were just working against each other.

I agree, I don't care about the comfort that much. But A/Cs are not sport cars, I think that's why everyone is so concerned about the ride comfort.
My hood is wrapped with CF Vinyl (hood, Roof and trunk), it looks good, but I frankly don't like it. I want real CF!! I guess I'm going to remove them soon.
Did you install the springs on your stock shocks and everything?

So its been about 5 months, hows the car riding now? Is it alot stiffer? Did you get that alignment? I ask because today I installed the springs and I was like you in the beginning of the thread. So just curious to see how its riding 5 months later.
