Hey everyone,

I'e started personalizing my AC and with wheels and a new lowering kit. I have successfully purchased the wheels (a 19" black chrome package) but have run into a small problem with the Eibach lowering kit.

I have zero technical knoweldge and will require a mechanic to put on the springs. My problem is the prices of hourly labour. I have received a few quotes and have received prices of 400$ - 500$ (for 3-5 hours of work). Is this correct? Does anyone in Southern Ontario know of a mechanic (or is a mechanic themselves) that would be able to put the springs on at a lower but reasonable rate?

if you're willing to find a friend, you can change springs pretty easily.... as long as you have a jack. you can even just take the strut tower out and bring it to a shop to swap the springs for you, i did that (had problems with the spring compressors i rented) and it cost me $20. it takes a shop 10 minutes to swap springs because they have a professional compressor. the rest of the job just involves unbolting stuff and then bolting it back on.

but definetly don't pay anything over $250 for the job if you go the shop route.

P.S. there's a really good write-up in the suspension forum with pictures on how to install eibachs.

400-500 may be a little steep even by canadian standards (you guys pay more than we do), though with current rates, that probably does translate to around 250-300 or so USD...

yeah it'll cost you a pretty penny to get them installed.. best thing to do is bribe a friend or friend of a friend with some beer and pizza to help you out. then go to an auto shop to get them alligned

Despite what some others might say, installing springs isn't an overly difficult process (even for a mechanical noob) provided you follow the instructions to a T.

Toxik made an awesome point about just taking your strut assembly into a shop and having them swap the springs. The most difficult part of this whole process is the removal and installation of the springs onto the strut assemblies...by getting a shop to do that for you, all you're responsible for is bolting everything back onto your car which is quite simple provided you know which is the business-end of a wrench!

I've said it before and I'll say it again...there's a certain sense of self-satisfaction that comes from having done your own mods. By taking the leap and doing it yourself, it only serves to build your confidence which will lead to bigger and better mods in the future! Have fun, my fellow Canadian!

You you can probably do it in 1-2 hours without any knowledge at all. Do the rear first, they're stupid stupid easy, the spring just falls out lol.

The fronts you would need a spring compressor.

well the deal is if you buy the springs through sears they install them for free. the thing is i checked in the computer for stuff for the a/c and the only things they have listed are front brake pads and tires so far, so i guess since its a relatively new car they haven't updated the listings.... ill c if theres a special way to order it... but the guys there should know about the special free install promo goin on if you just ask em about it

Definitely do the rears yourself (use the pinned topic in this forum for details). They are very simple. You will save close to $100 that way. My fronts (which I couldn't do as I have no access to a spring compressor) were done by my local small-town NAPA-Autopro dealer for just over $200.

Anyone wanting $400-500 is just ripping you off! A realistic number is about $300 (max) for all four corners.
