Hey there,

Question - I bought my car already lowered with the Eibach pro drop springs. Though I LOVE the look of my car, I am not as pleased with the ride. I wanted to see if anyone else has these springs, and if anyone can confirm whether or not the ride characteristics are normal.

Honestly, they feel somewhat soft. Hitting bumps is fairly dramatic. Not with the undercarriage so much (I'd expect some things to drag when a car is lowered), but more with the suspension bottoming out. Also, at highway speeds, the front suspension seems somewhat 'bouncy'. Meaning, at 65 when I hit a bump in the road, the control arms (mostly in front) seem to bounce for a second making it uncomfortable to steer, especially when it happens within a curve in the road. Overall, it definitely doesn't ride like a normal M, which I'd expect with altered suspension of ANY sorts- But it really feels like something isn't right.

With this said, is this typical of Eibach? Or, is this a sign that the OEM struts are cashed? I am trying to decide if I should replace the entire set up with coil overs, or if I just need to replace the OEM struts. I love how it looks and don't want/need it lower or higher... And I do not use this car for any performance endeavors (other than just having some normal street fun), as this is 100% my daily commuter. I don't care as much about being able to adjust the suspension (but I won't lie, I wouldn't mind it 1/2" lower) which makes coilovers seem like a waste (since I'd likely never adjust them once I have them set where I like).

Thoughts??

I cannot comment on Eibach as I am on S.techs. Seems like all the members are happy with eibachs.
I'd recommend you get KYB shocks/struts as I did when I install the S.techs.

If you think you're bottoming out the suspension, perhaps your bumps stops, etc. are shot? Could also be the struts/shocks...

You live where my GF lives (yes, other side of the country :( ) and from what I know you guys don't use salt, so you should be okay with having nice coilovers for a long long time. I'd personally go the coilover route since you're likely to spend $600 or so on shocks/struts anyway. Might as well go with coilovers for a few hundred more...IMO.

It sounds like a combination of weak/worn struts and possible play in the front end, control arm bushings maybe?

If you do good research online you can get KYB front + rear for about $300.

Wow they've gone done a lot since I had my 2007 needing suspension. If I recall, for the X model, only one end of the car was able to be purchased from KYB...the other side had to be from the dealer hence the high price.

Non-X guys are lucky.
