so right now the car has nothing but the crank pulley, alternator, and water pump on it....

I plan on putting my powersteering pump back on... so how do I go about getting a serpentine belt for something like this?

set the adjustment to almost all the way in. Use a piece of string to measure the total distance the belt travels end to end, cut.

Count the number of ribs on the pulleys.

Take the info and string into the auto parts store, they can match a belt for you.

Thank you for the intelligent response.

The ribs should all be the same style on the pulleys right?

i matched my powersteering belt numbers with numbers napa had. if you need a powersteering belt i can get you the napa number tomorrow. i dont feel like going out to my car this second. with the other belts just get the numbers off them take them to napa and they can cross reference them and hook you up. i spent 2 weeks and 4 different belts figuring this out.

i know the difference between a serpentine belt setup and a multi ribbed v-belt, which is what the ca has.

a serpentine setup is when all accesories run off one belt, generally with a spring loaded tensioner.

Alright

I can tear apart an H4 boxer ej207 block in about 20 minutes with air tools and a partner

That doesn't mean I know everything about cars. You can take your ignorant comments into GT, I'm looking for helpful information. I've never had to deal with changing out any type of pulleys or pumps because all of my previous cars had a/c and had power steering. This is my first time putting a power steering pump back onto a car.

So if you have any information regarding the subject, I would appreciate it. If not, just stop posting here.

anybody can tear apart an engine in 20 minutes. you need a partner?

i guess that makes it easier to split the case, but i digress, im not much of a subie guy.

here you go, i found these in under a minute by readng the helpful stickies at the top of the page.

Alt Belt 4pk855 $9.99PS Belt 4pk845 $8.99AC Belt 4pk840 $8.99

Ok So the PS pump runs off its own seperate belt then? I didnt know this, as my car a has 2 belts, pump and alt on one, ps and ac on the other....

So if I buy the PS belt, it'll go on the extra slot on my dampner pulley, simple as that?

It definitely takes two people to take the heads off a subaru, unless you're superman and can hold the cam with one hand... every one i've done is so tight the impact hurts your hands if you're the one holding the wrench

rwd has 3 belts, 1 for alt and wp, 1 for a/c, and 1 for p/s.

i believe fwd/awd uses a 2 belt setup.

It's still 3 belts, it just runs the alternator off of the A/C.

Crank and P/S are one belt.Crank and A/C are one belt.A/C and Alt are one belt. (A/C has 2 pulley slots)

I stuffed up by using a bit of string method to get the right water pump belt.

Remember to size up the biggest and smallest belt using the string method. Aim for the middle and add an inch.

Double check the length of another belt, I think you'll find the measurement is the outside surface of the belt, which justifies my 'add an inch' method..

So the string method gave you this measurement of 845mm? There are a few different versions of CA18, so I'm not going to recommend anything. For 8.99, it won't break the bank if you are wrong.

the problem with the string is, it sometimes sits lower in the grooves of the pulley then the belt would.

doesnt seem like much but if you consider the whole diameter of the pulleys, it can add up to about an inch, easily.

sorry, i wish i could give you an actual belt size, but mine doesnt have p/s either.

im surprised no one on here who has it has just walked outside and read the belt number for you.

tsk tsk.

Yup I'm in a mid-life crisis right now I just want my damn power steering back, if anybody knows a belt # that worked for them that would be great

If not I'll do the string method as soon as my IC pipes are finished, my clutch is in, my rear limited slip diff and j30 axles go in.....

I couldn't ever find one that would work. I'm still using the belt that came with my motorset. It was originally set up for the Super HICAS pump, so I had to cut it down to make it work. Kinda sucky...

That's actually wrong..I don't know if I have a magical CA or those are ONLY for FWD but the P/S belt on MY CA is 3pk not 4pk.

The nissan branded belts I took of my silvia are Alt/Water 4PK850P/S 3PK840

It's not the clearest picture but you can see the P/S pulley is narrower..

Also my car originally had A/C but I took it out to make room for the turbo and piping.

I don't have P/S on mine either, but I do remember it being a 3 belt pulley.

PS: If you're going to mis title your thread (Serpentine belt etc...) don't be a jerk about it when somebody corrects you. Unless you build a custom setup, the CA does not have a serpentine belt, but rather multi groove v belts. If it was a mistake, just say so...

The technical side of the forum was meant for informative help. Not sarcastic responses. Theres a place in General chat for that. This part is for members to help eachother. I wouldn't think that is too much to ask, instead of when a simple mistake is made we all start being jackasses to the OP.

I didn't know the belts had different names, and assumed the belts on the dampner pulley were just called the serpentine belts. I would have thought some one would have looked past the fact that I used the wrong name for the belt.

So, instead of making an intuitive correction, informing me I used the wrong term for the belt, he decided to steer his response completely away from my obvious objective to make a smart ***, sarcastic response.

Either way, thanks for all the replies everyone.

your the one who made a nasty remark.

i said lots of time and fabrication, based on the fact that i thought you were serious about fabricating a serpentine belt setup. there is no simple answer to that.

now wiper your tears, have a cracker, and drink your oj, its all ok now.

that was a sarcastic response.
