Simple question for those who tune their RBs... what EGT do you guys aim for as a max threshold? Also to get an idea, how far away would you estimate your probe is from the head?

mine is about 3-4 inches, and i see as high as low 1700s F (forged pistons). fueling is good, but advancing tming can lower my egts a bit. i might need race gas to do that though to keep the knock counts down.

Why did you guys pic cylinder 6? Is it because it is most likely to lean out and cause the EGT to rise? Also, how did you install the temp sensor on the manifold?

Yes Sir #6 usally the hottest. Tap the manifold for the probe east as 1,2,3. You can do it while the manifold is on the car too.

on log style forward facing plenums, cyl 6 typically leans out the most (hottest) cuz of the air inertia tending to ram towards the back past the first 5 runners. if you're running the crossover oem rb25/20 style plenum then it doesn't really matter.

drill & tap to mount the egt, i did mine off the car. ppl sometimes do it on the car but i find it riskier w/ turbo cars in case all of your metal drill flakes don't get out. but if you decide to leave it on the car, the idea is to start drilling, and just before you break through, start the car and finish drilling gently so the air pushes the metal flakes out of your new hole. personally never tried it cuz i'm chicken

I'm assuming you can run the wideband signal and EGT signal to the standalone ECU. Is that correct? Also, did you guys order their LCD display unit or just wire the sensors into your ECU? It's an extra $120 for the LCD and I already have a PFC w/hand controller, so I'd like to avoid buying that if I don't have to.

I'm thinking of just installing the EGT sensor while I have the motor apart and then buying the wideband once I get the motor running and broken in.

the zeitronix has a 0-5V wbo2 output that you can plug into your EMS, but the PFC itself doesnt accept voltage inputs. you need to get the FC-datalogit box to take inputs. If not, the best you can really do is look at the wbo2 numbers/log them on your laptop using the provided zeitronix software. OR you can input your tps, rpm from your PFC into the zeitronix box and see those values in conjunction w/ wbo2 in the zeitronix software. however, that wont correlate directly with any of your 20x20 cells in PFC. best bet really is to get the datalogit box if you want to do your own tuning. otherwise you need to rely on tuners that have the apex software or datalogit. the commander is really only a monitoring device and a very gross adjustment tuner.

The EGT you cannot output. you simply view/log that one in the software.

I don't have the $120 lcd display either.

now someone answer my EGT question at the top

I did my EGT on my DSM with the car running. I was very scared at 1st but the owner of Road Race said nothing to worry about. He was right the exhaust pulse blew the metal away from the hole. This was a cast Iron manifold.
