Just a quickie: can anyone confirm the typical thermocouple type for EGT sensors? Google yielded more search results with K, but I'm so used to seeing J in industry that I wanted to confirm.

Thanks!Jamie

J tops out at 1382F whereas K can go to 2282F.

EGT can be as high as 1650Fhttp://www.innovatemotorsports....html

Yeah you know I was just looking at some cold junction compensation/interface IC's and noted the end range on the J type; thanks for the confirmation and link!

This is an EGT sensor from http://www.aimsports.com who have some of the best gauges on the market.

Althouth both the EGT and the water temp sensor are k type thermocouplers the shape of the sensors are different.

Get an ungrounded K type thermocoupler for EGT. Make sure it is ungrounded. I get them at Plastic Process Equipment http://www.ppe.com/. They cost a whopping $18 the last time Ipurchased from them, but it is not a stock item and will take a couple weeks to get. Call them and make sure you get an ungrounded junction K type. I use this with a Zietronix ZT2 wide band on my Sr20 and am logging EGT's.
