What cylinder is the best place to install an EGT thermocouple probe to read the hottest exhaust temps coming from the engine? I'm thinking either cylinder 2 or 3, as close to the exhaust port in the primaries as possible.

Do you think there would be much difference between any of the 4?, seeing as its a single throttle body system (similar air flow to all cylinders). I know with any kind of individual system temps could vary. This involves installing some sort of a bung in the header correct?, im assuming you are running an aftermarket header. Installing one nicely in a cast manifold would seem a bit tricky with out making a weak crack prone area.

but then again, i could very well be wrong.

This is an old pic of my engine bay, yes the bung is welded into one of the primaries and the compression fitting and the probe screwed into place. I know installing it in the cylinder that runs the leanest would be the best option, but i have yet to work out which one does (ie the injector closest to the FPR or closest to the fuel rail inlet?)

hmmm, what are you using to interpret the signal? (i have little knowledge of egt thermocouples). Why not just run 4, to a simple multidisplay device. That would give a nice tuning feature in getting all your cylinders matched.

btw, nice header

thanks bud.Device i'm using/building can be found on here: http://www.autospeed.com/cms/article.html?&A=0376

Displays upto 1100 deg C and is accurate to 1 degree C. I'd like to run 4 probes, but not at $58 AUD each! One should be fine. :) Has cost me under $210 AUD, much cheaper and more accurate than a brand name gauge for double the price. Plus, much easier to glance at quickly instead of looking at a needle. Less likely to be stolen too.
