Hey guys,

for some reason, the egt sensor on my car is about 2 feet down the downpipe. I was told it is useless in that place, and it should be right outside the exhaust port.

Your thoughts, please.

I don't want to relocate it and find out it is something particular to this motor.

the thing 2 feet from your turbo is your o2 sensor.

EGT sensors are on the exhaust manifold itself and specifically on the runner pre-turbo. If you really do have an EGT sensor after the turbo, it isn't telling you jack squat in that location.

Your EGT sensor should look like a metal stick L shaped.

A O2 sensor is thick.

Unless you bought a modified motor, your probably thinking about your O2 sensor.

Stock GTR's do have an EGT sensor located about where the passenger seat is.

Maybe for the R34, but I'm not seeing anything in the R33 manual for one on the RB26. I'm only seeing two O2 sensors.

from what I understand, if an egt is located that far away from the exhaust port it is 100% useless.

there is one.. it's called the "exhaust gas temperature sensor" and there is also an "exhaust gas temperature warning lamp" that can be trigged by the ECU. i've never seen this sensor in person so i have no idea where it is or what it looks like.

yes, you are right, but people are discussing aftermarket egt sensors that read real time. until you're sure what sensor you have under the car i would not touch it. first of all, does your car even have an egt gauge in it?

Yep, car has a working egt gauge. The only reason I'm asking about this is because I have the car in right now to have a innovative motorsports wideband sensor and gauge installed, and the master tech (one of the guys that built the Dynocomp STI that battled the Mine's r34 at buttonwillow) noticed the egt sensor was way down the downpipe.

I don't plan on relocating it, was just curious. I always like to double-check what techs tell me.

he is basically right, since egt is a relative reading based on how close your sensor is to the head. i wouldn't be worried about it though, your readings will just read much cooler
