since you don't know how an EGT even works either.
Actually Jay is probably the only one that knows this , EGT's for a particular motor are characteristic of that particular motor.

Basically states that in order for one to tune by EGT, you must also have a wideband o2 on the car at the same time telling you if your AF is rich or lean. At point you determine by the AF that your are running good, then you see what your EGT is AT THAT EXACT POINT. You can then watch your EGT on the street to make sure there are not big changes in it while under boost and such. If you see a change, something is up, if you add a mod to the car, you have to do it all over again, cause there are A LOT of things that effect EGT's.
Runner 4 on the manifold is the runner of choice by most, or in the collector like Jay said.
Most KA's I have seen running big boost have EGT's in the area of 1550F to 1650F(race fuel)........don't take these as the numbers you motor will make, cause it very well could differ.
If your probe is in the down pipe, you typically will see a 200 degree drop in temps, but once again, till you get a wide band and tune your AF mixture, you really can't say what your EGT's are supposed to be.
Sorry big pet peeve of mine.
