I also have Cal setup. It can get tricky but you may want to first make sure there isn’t charcoal built up in the lines. If so, you’ll need to blow that out from the service hose leading from the engine to the canister. On an old system, the charcoal canister may be ruptured. It’s pretty easy to tell by disconnecting the vent valve somewhere on the engine and seeing if there’s any evidence.
I’ve been able to get by on just replacing the charcoal canister and vent valve. You may can get by just replacing the canister and then seafoam spraying and compressed air the other parts. That’s basically what I did for my vent valve solenoid motor. I changed the EGR valve but it didn’t really seem broken to begin with, but since I was chasing everything else down looking for a fix to a culprit I was dealing with, it was part of it.
Every so often I’ll still get an EGR code, idk why but it should stay off long enough to get thru emissions. The state I live in currently doesn’t do emissions anyway, but for awhile I was bent on fixing every code until I got to the oxygen sensors and knock sensors, where the rear heating wiring seems f*** and the knock sensors are too difficult to reach and don’t seem to be causing any major issues.
Damn California and Arizona emissions are part of why there’s hardly any Qs around. It’s difficult to get a check engine light off and stay off after so many miles and owners. I had one car where the CEL bulb was actually removed from behind the panel by the previous owner. I ended up putting it back because I need to make sure it’s not blinking at some point, that’s when it’s really a problem lol.
