My 2000 I30t is at the dealership getting the EGR valve replaced.

My wife came home Wednesday and said the muffler had broke on her car. I went out and opened the hood. I had her start it, and it sounded like a truck. The leak was behind the engine under the intake manifold by the firewall. I suspected a broken exhaust manifold or cracked gasket.

The dealership said the plug fell out of the EGR valve and they needed to order one.

It is supposed to be in today, and i can return the G35 I have been driving around. Total repair estimate is $413.00 which includes next-dat-air charges.

The car has 110.000 miles on it, and has had no major work done to it. I let the dealership do everything. They did a 90,000 mile service which included plugs a while back. I have had all the coil packs replaced, the revolution sensor replaced, the MAF replaced (they said the K&N filter killed it), and the O2 sensors replaced under warranty.

Has any body else experienced EGR valve failures?

I just replaced my EGR valve with 161K on my 95 and it wasin good shape.

I never heard of a "plug" on the EGR valve. When the enginereved up did the valve move up and down? Did it test out electricallywith the EGR actuator? I hope they put a gasket on it when theyfixed it.

oh man...the egr valve costs less than $120 from a parts store and should be relatively easy to replace. say no to dealership repair prices as for the maf being killed by a k&n filter...bs again. a lot of people will say it's true but it's not unless you overoiled the filter yourself, when it comes new it has just the right amount on it not to damage anything - otherwise k&n would be paying for a lot of repairs. if it's not under warranty don't let a dealership rip you off, check around for estimates or diy.

about the plug...did they mean the egr temperature switch?
