So my check engine light keeps going on and off. My car keeps fixing itself! I HAVE SEARCHED. Everything is just "i thinks" or "maybe this will work". I want to fix this 100% and get my CEL to turn off!Ha but anyways, I want to fix the problem. If need be, I can replace it with spare motor part BUT I would rather try to fix it. I understand there is two larger hoses running through the EGR and a small hose on top. What do I need to do/check/replace/fix. Easy way to check if it is functional? Any help appreciated. Thanks

to check if the egr is good and that your problem is not the control function of the egr, with the car running push the diaphragm under the valve top up to see if it chokes out the car. if it does the problem is in the control of the egr operation. the small vac hose on top should run to a bpt valve that should have 3 hoses on it. it is common for bpt valves to go bad or one of thier vac lines to crack and cause lo egr flow.

oK so the cover I need to press down on? Or the valve shaft at the bottom of the egr unit? There is a cover secured by two screws on top of the valve cover on my egr valve. Do I remove that and then press down on that?

You would push the diaphram with your finger. If it chokes out the car, replace the valve.

Do I remove the hose that plugs into the exhaust manifold and try to finger it from there? Haha that sounded kinky . But detailed instructions would be great. Thanks.
