EGR Vacuum Solenoid

im getting a cel on my 99 Q45 with 170,000 miles thats saying my egr solenoid is bad, but from reading up on it it sounds like my valve is clogged up. Can someone give me a step by step on how to clean everything out? i remember seeing it on the forum here once upon a time but ive been looking for an hour and cant find it. Or if you know where that forum is please reply with the URL. Thanks in advance guys.

Either issue isn't unheard of. You should be able to feel the valve lift up and flutter when you rev the engine at idle. If that's not happening then I'd look for a control problem. Sometimes the electrical contacts just get corrosion, and can be cleaned. If you feel it lift and flutter, then unbolting it and cleaning it's port into the plenum would be a next step.
