I need to know if the EGR tubes come before or after the cat.... Also, has anyone tried to clean them by just unbolting it from the valve and then fabricating some sort of wire brush to clean it out...

Yeah, but I couldnt find it in there........ I looked in a few different sections, and it didnt show wether it hooks on before or after!!! It just shows that it hooks onto it........ It looks like it hooks onto it after, but I am not sure!

So I take it if I tried to clean it with it still on the car (unbolting it from the valve and wire brushing it out), it could possibly damage the cat..... Or it may not even be possible without removing the entire thing.....

Don't know what prompts your question, but I would bet you would find that all or most of any dirt is between the valve and the plenum where the intake connects, past the throttle body. If that part, plus the valve itself, is squeaky clean, you will get the improvement.

Has anyone else cleaned the lower part?

I took mine off and sprayed some brake parts cleaner through, but I don't think it had much there. I had 90% restriction on the other side of the valve in the plenum though!

Is it possible to reach in there and clean it out without taking off the EGR valve/plenum??

You need a mini rotorooter driven from a drill.........hand made! Every decent Q tech has one.You must remove the entire EGR system to get at the opening. So you might as well clean everything like new that way you will get 70k more happy miles till you get to do it again.

The more steady state 60 mph driving you do the faster the EGR gets plugged...........really only when EGR operates at cruise.

Failed NOX emissions very common!

I do not know if I went the wrong way.........my Q would pass the good old nox. So I took it to my "guy" and he flushed the system.......I'm not sure how or with what......all I know is the #'s went from 1200 to 350. And it passed nox.:D
