If I understand your question correctly.... jeesh talk about bad writing... anyway, yes you don't need to weld the EGR tube to the downpipe... but no, you shouldn't leave it open. Weld it shut or something, cause that would be an open (non-filtered) air intake to your mani.

ive heard that if you just close it off, your engine will run rich or lean,(not sure which). is this true. i was just planning on putting it in my downpipe but if it wont hurt just to close it off then it would save me the trouble to weld it in my downpipe.

I don't know why it should, since the EGR is only supposed to work during cruise conditions (?). I had it connected to my downpipe but had some issues with the hose I was using melting, and I didn't want to go through the hassle of pulling down my downpipe and welding something onto the bung already there, so we decided to just weld it shut. Haven't felt or seen the car act any different than before.

If you are installing the turbo, you have two choices, the enviroment conscious and the easier one. The first, to connect it to the downpipe. Or just take out all of the egr system and have a plate put at the mani.

If I was to do it all over again... I'd go the second route.

Like previously said, you can't just leave an open Vacuum source to your intake. Motors don't work like that. You also might want to consider clearly typed questions, it makes it alot easier to read and respond to. Grammer is everyones friend...

You say, "take out all of the egr system." What all does that consist of? Or can i just weld shut the end of the egr tube that would be going into the downpipe? I think that would be easier.

I drove with mine disconnected for a couple of months. Didn't seem to affect anything. I got it "hooked up yeaterday so that I could get my car inspected. Man does it look ghetto. I can't believe it passed.....

Yes, it would be easier to just weld up the egr tube that went to the original exhaust mani, that's how I have it. But if you are for example rebuilding a motor, then just leave the EGR stuff out.

What do I mean by the EGR system? Hmmm... I don't have my FSM with me, but you need to remove the EGR solenoid (it's on the back of the intake mani) and plug up the EGR control solenoid outlet to the EGR solenoid. I'm not sure if you can remove the control solenoid cause it controls something else, but can't remember what. Then you put a plate where the egr solenoid use to be and your set. I'll look at the FSM later to see if I was right, sorry if this doesn't make good sense

I put a door knob from a closet and JB welded the EGR hole shut on the Intake mani. It's a tiny little hole. Don't just leave the tube hanging there.

i have a plate to block off mine where it goes into the intake manifold then capped the vaccum line off of it. jwt said that the egr makes no difference in how the engine preforms. they did put a resistor in my ecu to try to get rid of the code that it throws. dont know if it works yet im still waitin in my maf
