My service advisor at my local Nissan dealership told me that the egr was a backpressure sensitive piece and with a header it wouldnt get enough exhaust to do what it was supposed therefore it wouldn't pass emissions.

Heres the thing this is an ongoing problem with the EGR. The threads didn't line up when I installed the header so I cut the EGR pipe threaded it and then sealed the gap with this exhuast wrap plaster stuff. That worked for about a month, until I got a check engine light saying clogged egr so I broke the plaster and found it was cloggin it so right now I have some rubber hose on until I can figure out how to fix this. I think im gonna get a piece of copper or steel piping roughly the same size and wrap the plaster stuff around it again.

I tried to have it welded but it's to close to the firewall to weld unless I take off the EGR line and I havent been able to yet.

My question is do you have any ideas on how to fix this egr problem, because I can't stand the exhuast leak or the check engine light anymore.

Oh yeah how could I fix the steering problem with the header i've heard of people denting the pipe are there any other ways?

I didnt have a problem wih my egr fitting as I threaded it on prior to tightening / torquing the header down. BUT my egr has also been disabled from a long time prior to putting it on :) I also have an s14b with 2 cats so removing the upper left the lower intact, thus allowing the egr to operate freely.

I really dont see why its a big deal if you dont pass emissions as you dont have a cat on the car anymore. By putting a cat on in place of the shell (rare s14b secondary, s13 primary, or highflow) and removing the egr assembly (rather simple) to fix / replace the pipe would be the only real option I see.

I figured it out im gonna take 1/2 inch flex pipe and weld it in place. Similar to the pipe that cover your ac line but much more durable.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the header pressing the knucle in place while executing a nice hard right hand turn... Um mine went away after a while, actually the knucle bent a dimple into it... This worked well on the street then at my first auto-x it came back and stayed for the next 4. As it slowed me down I wanted to fix it so I manually shaved about 1/32 - 3/64" off of the part of the knuckle (the highest part where it is split) by hand with a file... Havent had it come back...

But you coulde bang a small unobtrusive dent into the headder if you see bindage.

Solid engine mounts or an engine brace will also work...

Readily availible at your local auto parts store is egr/air pipe repair hose- basically hose that is made to take the heat of this application. slip it over the pipe, clamp it in place....done.Used this many times- works great.
