hey guys, i've got a 1995 240 and it's been in the shop for the last three weeks getting a used engine put in it. after they got the engine in, the cars computer told them that I needed a new MAF, throttle position sensor, and EGR solenoid valve. so i finally get the parts in today and rush them over to the shop only to find out there's an issue with the solenoid valve.

the issue is this, the old valve had a three prong hook up on the side of it (elec. hook up, not sure what it goes to) and the new valve does not. the shop said they would try to install it anyway and see if it runs properly. does anybody know if this would be harmfull to do or even work? how i could find a new direct replacement?

the part # for the new solenoid valve is 14956-60U00 also, on the part it there was A22 650-T51the only #'s i could find on the old part was A22 641 921

according to all the parts distributors i have checked with, factory or otherwise, the new part i got is the right one. any help on this would be greatly appreciated - i just need to get this friggin thing back on the road. thanks

I don't have a dohc fsm on hand or I'd check up on that valve for you. What I wanted to tell you was to be a bit more skeptical of this shop's work. It's not always wise to just replace whatever the computer says is bad. Did they test the maf? Did they test the tps? They're the mechanic shop - why can't they tell you what the effects of the missing solenoid harness will have? (speaking of which, if the new valve doesn't have any way to connect to the computer, I hardly think the computer is going to think any better of it)

ya i'm definately a little skeptical of the shop... they're changing out the part right now so i should know if it runs in a few hours if it runs.

i found out also i had my info backwards - the new part has the elec. hook up and the old one does not

so i got my car back today - the shop got it running with the new solenoid valve

but i'm still having a problem with it. the engine shakes when you take off from a stop unless you have it revved to about 2500. also, it shakes when downshifting into second and there is a slight delay (almost feels like a shake) when the gas pedal is "punched".

does this sound like bad injectors? could the throttle position sensor be installed incorrectly?

Sounds to me like the shop doesn't know what the hell they are doing. Sad as it may seem, it may actually be a bad idea to take it back to them and ask them to fix the problem. They could just end up making it worse. If the car is behaving that badly, see if any codes show up in the ECU. I have a feeling that the EGR solenoid is going to give you tons of problems. If the part isn't exactly like the original, then its not like the original, regardless of what the parts houses say. Unless there is a replacement bulletin from Nissan, I would call the local Nissan dealer and find out why it is different. I would bet a small bodypart that they are giving you the OBDII solenoid (1995-1998) and you need the OBDI solenoid (1991-1995). The 95 240 is a transitional year product. There are some of each (OBDI and OBDII). A real Nissan dealership should be able to sort you out.

I don't always like to jump to conclusions, but I think I would tend to agree with Uber.

Your issues kinda sound like somthing is still up with the MAF. Part of me doubts that it was ever bad in the first place, though. More likely a bad connection, and it could still be a bad connection.
