you probably replaced the EGR valve not the EGR solenoid.
Theres a solenoid on the front part of the motor (i believe, correct if wrong) that controls the vacuum to the EGR valve... you can test the EGR valve by lifting up on it while the engine is idling, and the engine should run rough or die..
the EGR solenoid is what the ECU uses to control the EGR, when it opens it allows vacuum to pass through the solenoid and then lift the EGR valve.
