Anyone remove their EGR and notice any problems?

Also... did anyone notice any gains?

i removed the one going to the intake box. didnt notice much. air going in is a bit cleaner though. I cant get to the 2nd one on the intake manifold without taking the manifold off.

what do you mean the one going to the intake box? is there a hose from there that hooks into the egr system?

ive heard 2 different things. ive heard if you remove it, its better because the air is hot and dirty. but ive also heard that if you remove it you will run a little rich.

Yea, I did it for a little while, and put it back on. It ran really rich and idled pretty roughly. I don't think it hurts anything though.

I would think you would need ECU tuning for this no?

Alan's ECU is already tuned for this as it came from my old car.The tuning corrects the rough idle, and the eroor code thrown for deleting it, as well as fixing the running rich problem.

oh yea, but i also didn't notice any gains either. a loss if anything. but it could have been from running rich. it ALSO could have been running rich b/c of the timing chain situation, but that's all over now.:)

I have a hosed EGR ! ... the car was stuttering when accellerating and hesitating.. I took the vaccum line off the top of the EGR and put a screw in it... runs great now!

When you first start the car it runs a bit choppy on idle but as soon as you driver out of your driveway it goes back to normal immediately.

The only difference I noticed and may not have anything to do with it is that now there is a slight smell coming from exhaust.

The EGR is NOT what is connected to your airbox. That is the AIV. If you want to know what that does, do a search for AIV. The EGR is at the back of the intake manifold. The reason your car will run rich without it is because the computer assumes some exhaust or air from that valve is entering the engine and therefore will put in more fuel accordingly. If you get your ECU retuned via JWT you can tell them you removed your EGR and get it reprogrammed for lack of an EGR valve. You could probably do some monkeying with resistors and make the code go away, but it won't fix the rich problem. I believe R240NAII has done this successfully, he is the one to get info on that.

omg I didnt even read that post .... he thinks the EGR the AIV are the same?

do a google image search on EGR valve .. it will atleast give you somewhat of an idea what it looks like... and trpower7 is correct its behind the intake manifold

Can the EGR make that sputtering, or hesitation? if so can i just remove the vaccum line on it and have it eliminated like that. My problem is that the car under normal acceleration bogs, sputters, jerks every now and then, any idea what could cause this, i replaced the ignition cables and spark plugs and it ran better the first ride, but then it continued to do the same random sputter, please help me out with this! Thank you

Ok I rebuilt a ka24de and swapped it into my 90 240, I removed all the smog control while the engine was out of the car. On the EGR I just removed everything that you can take off. Plugged all the holes and welded a hole shut. I cant remember exactly how it went but once you have the engine out or the intake mani off you can see what you have to do. Mine runs fine, not rich, not lean I'm not sure if it helped horsepower any because I never drove it with or without and there are to many mods to compare it to stock ka but it runs great with no egr and no resistor in the plug.
