Dunno if any of you notice, but I'm thinkin of removing the egr, and I got a thread started full of questions below, but I got a seperate issue now.

I read somewhere that egr removal causes you to run rich. I plan on doing the 100k resistor trick, so I dunno if this will still be an issue.

Anyway if it does run rich I heard it will ruin the cat. But don't 240's come with 2 cats? I dummy one and a functional one right?

Well i thought okay if I get a ebay test pipe, I won't have to worry about the stock cat getting burnt up, only to wonder which cat the test pipe would replace

So thats my question now. And if it gets rid of the "real" cat will it throw a code. I know on some cars when you remove the cat, you get a code thats o2 sensor related i think.

Sorry for long post and thanks for any help.

I think trying to pass your emmissions inspection would be the bigger problem the the ECU throwing a code.

Hmm I dunno I'm from VA, and i think some local places don't get that technical, like they just check lights and all the safety issues and stuff. Sure I can get around it if its an issue at all.

So back to the question, buy I see your point though.

if you have an s13 then you wont throw a code..because you are obd1..where as on obd2 there is another o2 sensor after the cat to make sure it works...if thats the case then just put an anti fouler on the sensor and call it a day..and s13's only come with one cat..if you live in a state with no emission laws then just get a test pipe..

Yes it will remove the main (real) cat, and no it should not throw any codes. Your O2 sensor gets its readings before the cat so you could replace it with pretty much anything you wanted, a shoe for instance, and it still wouldn't throw a code. Removing the EGR could potentially affect your AFRs but I would think it would be very minimal if at all.

removing egr will also raise your intake air temp so if you have a metal intake be sure to heat wrap it or make it a true cold air. i also would note if you are going to remove emissons remove the big black box that goes from your intake to your exhaust manifold its more of an actual gain plus your computer is programmed to run with the egr taken into account so it might make for some minor problems down the road.

i took off the egr and i have straight pipe to an hks hi power. no black smoke comes from the exhaust and its got a little bit more power. the only downside is u get really loud with no cat. but the car runs fine. just make sure ur not going to have inspection problems.

when I rebuilt i removed butterflies and all egr stuff... I still have a cat conv though.. my car runs great... the idle sometimes has a mind of it's own ..but if i give it a revv or two it goes down to 1k and sits. :-)

did anyof you guys do the resistor trick? Do you have to actually cut the wires or can you stick the two ends of the resistor in the egr temp sensor?

Thanks this is all good info

Well, actually you have to have a VA emmissions inspection before you can get your car registered or get your new sticker.

Okay well what I might do is, just keep all the egr suff and lines and hook everything back up if I need it to pass. But my dad said whenever he got his and my moms car inspected, they never hook anything to the tail pipe or nothing. Plus to I do have one friend who works at meineke and he does inspections
