Do you have a p0400? I got that and my mechanic said that it was related to blockage in the tube that connects to the CC. He mentioned that the EGR vlave rarely goes bad. How many miles on the '96 and have you had this problem before? Check the other posts for additional information.

it has 130k, no i haven't had this problem before, but my car started stalling and losing power when driving at low rpm as well as loss of power when trying to speed up on highways. so the forum said to clean the IACV, MAF sensor, and the EGR. so i wanted to know should i just clean the valves or the whole system cuz there are many parts to the EGR when I looked up the parts for it.

you should try to clean everything for it. i'm in the process of cleaning mine now but not for code reasons. i had to change valve cover gaskets so i have everything off down to the intake manifold. my EGR guide tube is almost shut and the port to the collector was packed too. right now, i can't take off just the guide tube. i don't want to take off the EGR valve, just the tube so i can clean it really good. i can't get to the bottom nuts on the tube that connects to the block end.
