I just changed my valve cover gaskets and while i was in there i cleaned out my egr pipe and the spot where it goes into the intake. Well my problem is that the code wasn't on before i cleaned it and now it is. What should i check next, and also should there be a gasket there? There wasn't one when i took it off.thanks, cheapman

sounds like you should have disconnected your battery before you took it apart.

is it running ok, or does it sputter?

audatious or maxhopper97 will most likely be able to help you out more!!

I did disconnect the battery. It is running fine. It doesn't make any sense.

Go to one of the auto parts places that has the computer to read codes (autozone should have). Tell them you would like to check the codes, which they will do for no charge. When the code displays, ask them to delete it. If they claim they are not allow to delete emissions code, explain to them that you just cleaned out the pipe and then the code showed up and if it is a real fault, it will come back. They usually understand this logic. If they don't, go to the next place and try again. It should clear itself otherwise in something like 50 starts. if not, there is something there, the actual code should provide some in site.

I remember a gasket by the plenum for the tube. The stock one was a metallic silver soft feeling gasket which is heat resistant. What a sorryroute for an emmissions device-its a pain to get to.

You ought to break down and buy an Actron code reader. Minewas about $80. Then you can clear those codes to pass emmissionswithout the Autozone fuss

By the way I have made a lot of friends with the code reader;1) I cleared my friends who works at the gym. Now he gives mefree weight training or buys me beer2) Cleared a church buddys car code-now he helps me with housework3) Cleared another friend who will let me use their car when mineis down if I need it and get free beer to boot.

I have cleared my own about 4 times too and my wifes about twice. They probably charge $35/time to do this to your car so it has paid back fantastically
