After doing a little bit more research into this problem with my 1990 240SX, I believe my problem to lay in the metal piping between the EGR solenoid valve and the BPT valve; from what I can see in the FSM, the only break in continuity in that section of metal piping is a "T" connector that goes to the carbon canister. Does anyone know where this "T" is located? I'm going to take a lot of the intake off tomorrow in an attempt to find the problem, but if anyone can pinpoint the location, I'd appreciate it. Hopefully, it's just a simple loose/broken connection that is the source of all my EGR problems . . . :-)

Trace the smallest vacuum hose from your carbon canister, it'll lead you right back to the T connection.

The T should ve bery close to the BPT valve because a vacuum hose from the T goes to the BPT valve (if i remember correctly).

I believe you're right with regard to the "T"; the connection from the EGR solenoid valve to the BPT valve works fine when connected directly, however when connected through the metal tubing, the T should exist between the two connection points. I'll be sure to follow what you said, hopefully, it'll work out . . . thanks for the reply!

Sure enough, the problem was a hose that was connected to the wrong piping, coming from the carbon canister. Reconnected, took it for a test run, CEL off. Finally, I hope I got it. :-) Thanks for the help, much appreciated!

P.S: Oh, and it's a lot easier to do all this, including taking the EGR solenoid valve out for testing, if you remove the intake from the throttle body back to the MAF sensor. :-)

Can both the EGR and the BPT be disabled? I wanted to disconnect all these vacum hose? Now the fuel fumes hose that goes to the charcoal canister, what do i do with it? Leave it hanging around. What is this FSM every one talks about. thank you for your help.

To the best of my limited knowledge, the EGR system can be disabled by removing all the EGR valves (solenoids, etc), along with the BPT valve, and plugging the ports to which their hoses are connected. This may trip the CEL (Check Engine Light), especially on California models, but your engine will probably not suffer any ill effects from it. Oh, and a FSM is a Factory Service Manual . . . eBay was the source for my $20.00 one. :-)

Thank you, do you have any idea about what to do with the hoses that come into the charcoal canister, i know the ones that go to the TB get plugged up, what about the other big one? I think is the Fuel Vapor Ventilation.

Yeah, I don't have my FSM in front of me, but I'm pretty sure that's what it is. Plug all of them but that, I believe . . .
