Well the MIL light is on, took it to Autozone to read the code and they said it is the EGR valve. I didn't get the exact code to help narrow it down. For awhile I have been smelling a gas smell most times not all the time. I recently replaced some FIs and thought, oh no, I have another leaky one or I didn't hook the fuel lines correctly, but I stick my nose down in the engine area and sniff and don't get a strong smell of gas.

My question if the EGR valve is not doing what it supposed to do, where does the exhaust gas go? Is it very likely this is where I am getting the smell of gas from?

Thanks all1996 Q45 120K miles.

When you say "gas" do you mean gasoline or exhaust gas? The EGR is plumbed off the exhaust system and works off a vacuum, re-routing exhaust gasses to the intake to reduce cylinder temps. The MIL could be set off by a bad vacuum solenoid, a vacuum leak, a bad temp sensor or a clogged EGR tube. With the car idling lift up under the EGR valve. Car should stumble badly and maybe stall. If it does, then you've ruled out a plugged tube.
