it sounds feasable to disconnect the EGR, remove the solenoid, and plug the plenum holes where exhaust gas is fed, while leaving a lot of the crap sitting in the engine bay until i pull it in a couple of years to replace the turbos.
i've got the AIVs and PRVR gone

what do you think?

doh you're right, i forgot about plugging the drivers side exhaust manifold hole that feeds exhaust to the EGR valve.. any suggestions how it's done? the FAQ i have doesn't say, it just says to plug the hole

http://www.yugobernie.com/plugs.html
here's the page, should i just bite the bullet and order the $35 kit thing?

Ahh those are the plugs I was talking about for your stock cats where the AIV system connects.

That egr tube to manifold fitting is probably gonna be really hard to reach. I did mine with the engine out so I can't really comment much on how to get to it. You probably have to at least pull the plenum to make it possible.

As far as the EGR delete kit, I'd just buy it. When I deleted mine, I used a random differential fill plug that fit perfectly into the manifold. It was just laying around the shop at work. I had the old plates that mount to the plenum welded shut, but they didn't seal completely so I used an epoxy to seal the welds up. It works, but it's cleaner and easier just to buy the kit.

Those are the same plugs

Bernie, SpecialtyZ and Import Parts Pro all sell the 300° EGR elimination kit.

Oh, and it's far from easy to do with the engine in the car. It can be done, but it's far from easy.

when i did mine the two bolts holding the solenoid in hit the firewall and barley came out, as far as the tubes i cut them with a dremel at the elbows at either side of the engine...tons o fun!

It's far easier to delete the EGR system when the motor is out of the car. That's how I did mine. I just welded the hole on the exhaust manifold shut and got the block off plates from Z1 for the plenum. Sounds like it would be easier to just buy the delete kit for your situation. Honestly I'd wait untill you replace the turbos and do it then.

I plugged my drivers stock manifold on the car with just the intake off. Mines a NA though. It was tight but doable.

What is the advantage of deleting the EGR while the engine is in the car? Isn't the point of it to just clean up more or less unnecessary vacuum lines?

i was thinking about it to get rid of unnecessary vacuum lines, and to bypass a system that gets gummy and is known to cause issues when it stops working. I'd like to keep my engine lean as possible and since there are no emissions tests here, i'd like to rip all that crap out. :chuckle:

I Just Cut off and pluged the pipe coming out of the driverside exhaust, then unbolted the hoses that run into the intake and cut them off with a jigsaw, Just wondering what I should do next? Is the EGR valve going to stay closed? And man the lines going into my intake were so gummed up. Can't believe that was just flowing into my engine.

If you already cut the line coming off the exhaust manifold and capped it, and did the same for the two going to the underside of the plenum, then you're fine. Nothing will be able to flow to or from the valve itself. You can also remove the EGR solenoid and vacuum line from the pass. side of the engine.

After looking at where the EGR actually is I decided to forego removing it at the time (although it will be coming out soon as I'm working on my first engine pull). I cut the EGR pipes as far back as a I could, capped them and put a cap on the EGR vac connection. Obviously reworked the other vac lines as well.

He just capped the two metal tubes going to the underside of the intake and the vacuum port on top of the EGR valve itself. You said you already capped yours didn't you?

Did you also disconnect the electrical connection from the EGR solenoid on the pass. side of the engine?

Yes and yes,and I just checked my ECU code and got a 55? but my check engine light is still on. I'm going to pull the Negative battery cable and leave it off for awhile then take it for a drive and see if it comes back.

BUMP

Ill be pulling my EGR with engine still in. I just replaced the wiring harness so while im at it, might as well knock out the egr.

I see prob wont be able to get the egr tubes out completely out, so ill cut em back amd plug em. What should I use to securely plug them?
