Every gasoline engine in US eventually gets a dirty egr system depending on the percentage of cruise vs idling and acceleration hours/miles.

If normal 9-10% egr air flow [ vs MAF air flow] at cruise starts dropping due to partial blockages - the Nox parts per million go up and up in emission test.

Too many variables to say for sure if manual engagement of EGR doesn't fully stall an idling engine.

Cleaning the entire system can do nothing but good even if it only improves highway MPG by a few percent or decreases NOX by only 10%.

When's the last time you cleaned your plenum?

Cleaning the EGR inlet on the plenum is just about impossible without removing the plenum.

Although I don't seem to have any issues I will also work on this eventually.

My question is what are the effects of the EGR valve if I smash the gas at least once a day and usually cruise like a normal person?

I have the same issue that Jamesmost has. Its a problem that actually developed recently like in the last month.

Watch you throttle body cable pulley/cam when someone abruptly releases throttle from 2500rpm. Is it slow to respond? Do you have enough slack in the adjustment?
