i just installed a hi flow cat and a 2.25" catback system and now the check engine light comes on, then it will go off after the car sits for a few hours, then it will come on again. the ecu says code 32, which is the egr function. i checked the hoses and they look fine, so how do i check to see if the egr valve is working properly? btw my engine is the SOHC.

most likely the exhaust doesnt have enough backpressure to open the egr valve

Yup, time to get rid of that egr.. heheh..

No but he has a point.. now you have a bigger/better exhaust, and free flowing cat, there is almost NO backpressure, so there is reverse vaccum to make the egr open/operate..

i was thinking that too. so if there isn't enough backpressure, then what should i do? i need a smog in less than a month so i can register my car. are there more sensitive egr valves for sale?

anyone recognize the part with the black plug. on the bottom is where the hose i'm holding up is suppose to be. inside the hose is a broken plastic tube that was in that part with the black plug. i found this under the throttle body, could this be the source of my problem?

crap, i don't think the picture loaded right. so i'm gonna try to explain what's in the picture. just above and to the right of the oil filter is a solenoid help onto a bracket with one bolt. it has a hose connecting above it and below it are two hoses. one goes sideways and the other one (the one that's broken for me) runs downwards. there is also a male fitting that something plugs into. hopefully everyone will know what i'm talking about. so, would this affect my egr function?

on my drive from home to my dorm room, the cel came on and off twice, then it stayed off for the last 30 mins of the ride. now i'm more confused because the light stayed on all day, but at night is stays off.

it may be intermitant falure, that is that sometimes there is enough pressure and somtimes there isnt. if the exhaust has any kind of silencer, put that in for emisions, it will create backpressure

there is no silencer, i still think that solenoid that i mentioned above could be the problem. i just don't know what it is, so i can't replace it yet

i found out that is was the egr solenoid, and it costs $100 to replace that tiny thing
