EGR Check engine light. Help Please

I'm new to the forum and didn't know if there's a search tool or something for this, but I need to find answers and thought a forum would be the best place. Here's my problem, and I know it's a common one. I need to fix it though to pass smog.

My car has a check engine light on due to EGR and knock sensor codes. How do I fix these things? What direction should I point my mechanic to ease the troubleshooting?

Some of the details of my car, it's a 1993 240sx SE with 78k miles. Also, is there any preventative maintenance that I should do to this car to make sure it keeps running well? I'm really new to these cars and any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The EGR valve is probably dirty so it can be cleaned with a carb cleaner. the knock sensors you have to replace.

use the search botton Brah. aight wif da car running push on the EGR diaphram.. if this stalls the motor to the point of shuting off your EGR is good. On my SOHC there's a EGR control solenoid valvae I belive it's called wich is hooked up to one of the ports on the EGR, went bad. I changed it and code all gone. you should get a fuel injection system flush. that stuff cleans real good. Or what what I've done for a few years now is I add ruben' alcohol in the tank once in a while

WWJD, I pushed on the EGR diaphram and it didn't kill the engine but it did make it run rough. How do I know for sure what to replace? the code says EGR, I reset it and it comes back in. The EGR looks hard to remove.

best thing to do is get a chilton book it helps alot. the car should die, but stall still means it's ok. it's hard to take off. to put back on is. take it off and clean it well like ADF932 said. carb. cleaner and a brush. there's a step by step thing on there that hepls alot

check it they check it at autozone for free, i didnt get mine checked and it was the thermostat and a 25 dollar part cost me my engine now i spent a **** load on a new ka24de engine

does anyoneve advice on how to remove the egr valve ? preferably without taking off the intake manafold....... please?
