?egr? box/air box intake question &distributer question.

I'm trying to solve a mysterious miss my 1989 240SX KA24E has developed. Upon inspection i found a plastic box coming off a tube from the header, with a vacume system under it. The box pictured was melted when the past owner took off the heat sheild (why? i dont know..) and there is a hole on the side that appears to have previously been a nipple of some sort.Then i noticed another one on the air box after the filter that was just open, no hose connected..



I assume this connects to this that black egr box, or to something at least, cant be good to have an opening in the air box post filter.. anyone know how this is all supposed to connect together, and if it would cause a random miss in the engine?

then i looked at the distributer, because i have been hearing an arcing sound in the cap it self (replaced cap and button, and the shaft is tight) and found a tab that looks like a grounding tab that has no wire, and i cant find a wire for it anywhere...am i missing a ground wire?

The melted box is part of the AIV system. Throw it away. The nipple in the airbox is what the AIV used to connect to. Plug it. I have never seen anything connected to that ground prong on the distributor and I suspect nothing is supposed to be connected there.

yeah

if you can hear an arcing sound its probably plug wires. dont get the cheapies. get stock or ngk. if you can find an import parts place that stocks prestolite they are the stock brand.

Yes it is the AIV box. Yes it connects to the hole in the side of the airbox. No, the black box is not the EGR box. You should cover the hole in the side of the airbox because its supposed to be vacume sealed. That pretty much covers it.

Okay thanks guys, i pluged it up and ordered new plug wires, hopefully that helps the problem
