I could have sworn this has been discussed MULTIPLE times, but I only found 1 thread with anything about this, and all it said was just to use a piece of steel and drill holes....the EGR does run back to the intake manifold, right? Or right to the head. I don't know **** about this, I just don't want any surprises when I go to eliminate it when I finish the install.

you take off the pipe and the all the emissions valves, etc. and then take a flat piece of sheet metal or steel and drill two holes where the bolts can keep the plate bolted down, blocking off that port in result. its alot easier with the motor out.

Yeah I wouldn't even want to try and deal with that task while the motor was in the car.

I took of my egr, and put it back on with out a new gasket, will this matter, Will this cause a leak, and if so will the leak matter?

I agree, I blocked my egr with some thermostat paper-like gasket whenever I swapped my KA...It blew a month ago so I have to replace it with a metal plate.Did that while the motor is in the car...Oh man... what a pain... took me a good 3 hours since I have to take off my intake manifold just to replace that one piece and I dont have swivel joint(sp?).

A friend of mine (fastpace) did his without taking off the intake manifold (with the help of swivel joint and really small rachet.

any reason I couldn't just clip/crimp that tube that runs to the mani and weld it shut?

You can do that... just weld it shut, unplug the egr temp sensor, and put a 100k resistor into the ecu end of the plug. No check engine light.

I just made a blockoff plate.

does any one know if the egr need to be sealed? I do not feel like pulling it agin, to install a gasket. will it be ok if there is a leak from the egr, to the motor?

I had my EGR crap removed in like 30 mins with the motor in the car, I don't see what the PITA part is. You just need the right tools. Yes a UV joint is required. But every socket/ratchet set I've ever seen comes with 2 of them.

Where are you getting the resistor? Radioshack? I'll need to pass tech inspection right after my car is done, so I can't have any check engine codes.

That is lame...what if you have a problem you actually need the light for? Plus it doesn't help if the tech guys pull your codes.

you cant just unplug the check engine light, I tryed this, and it was an automatic fail, because when the key is in the on possition, but the car is not on, the check engine light should light up, they noticed mine did not, so they failed me before they even tested the car. does any one know if the egr needs to be sealed to the motor, or if its leaking will it be ok?

Only need to do that if you have a Cali ECU. Federal ECUs don't have EGR temp sensors.

I just left the egr control solenoid unplugged. Doesn't throw codes, and no engine light. Looking at it from the front, it is the plug on the left side. (Out of the two plugs that sit right behind the valve cover.)

I think I don't have problems with this because I got the '91. It's probably running blind and just hoping the emissions stuff is doing it's job. I love obd1 relics...

they only have odb to comply with federal regulations... do you really think the car manufacturers want that ****? it adds so much time and money to the development of a car....so back in 91 the government was just starting to regulate the amount of computing power that engines had to have, and I'm guessing it wasn't too much at all.

Any 100k 1/8W resistor will do. Radio shack will have it.

And if you habe en egr leak to manifold, your engine will run lean as it'll suck in unmetered air. Or in the case of under boost, run rich due to a leak.

Like WDRacing said I dunno what the pitta is I had my whole upper and lower intake taken off in like 45 minz, there was some hidden bolts hehe. The whole egr emission crap was gone in like the next ten mins, and as for the holes. I got some jb weld, a quarter some nice patching work and wa la it works wonderfully.

And just for some security once the jb weld got hard I used some high temp silicone to make sure there is no leaks.

^ same with me. Took me 30 min to take off using socket set and open end wrenches, while it was still in the car.. Also sealed mine up with high temp silicone. Works great no check engine or anything.

Taking out the egr is easy as hell....get ur self a block off plate on Ebay for like 15 bucks, and the egr gasket. Cut the EGR pipe in half and unbolt the rest from the intake mani. you will need to block the pipe some how (shove a big bolt in there, weld a penny to it, whatever) get the FSM if you don't know how it routes. It is easier if you disassemble the lower intake manifold first. YOUR COMPUTER WILL NOT THROW CODES!!! YOU DO NOT NEED A RESISTOR! Your car will however idle a little higher (not over 1,000 rpm tho) While you are at it you should get rid of the BPT and associated vac lines as well as the carbon canister, It is so easy you can do it all at once in an afternoon

it's not hard to just unbolt it and pull all the egr out as a whole..it took about 10 minutes.. there's maybe 8 bolts total... I have absolutely no emissions and have no check engine light.

Man....I just did mine. It was a major PITA!

Might have been easier had I just removed the two hidden bolts that hold on the valve instead of the three that secure the flange.

Next time I'm blasting!

does the block off plate replace the EGR or do you put the block off plate on and screw the EGR back onto the throttle body?

There are two parts to the EGR. The Valve itself and a big flange type thing. The valve is held on by two bolts. I'd try removing these. After that any piece of metal will do. Drill two bolt holes and put some RTV sealant on it. I didn't know so I removed the larger flange. Once off, I glued a quarter over the hole with RTV and put the flange back on to hold the quarter in place.

All you are doing is sealing a hole, it's not like you are doing a valve job. Just seal the freaking hole.

befor i installed my egr plate in about 10 min. i just to the pipe and bent it about 2 times then crimped it and no leakage, but i got tired of looking at it and i took it off. now i can almost fit my fist ( average size man hands) behind my motor. so much space no vaccums of sensors.
