My problem is that i have removed the emissions from my KA24E and now i am getting some rather poor fuel economy. i was wondering if anyone knows if no Egr will cuase a decrease in fuel economy? i used to get 29 hwy and now its around 21 mpg. ive searched around for poor fuel economy and saw some stuff about the MAF and CTS. i checked the MAF and added an additional ground, and the CTS conector was really corroded, so i replaced the conector and the sensor and didnt seem like it helped at all? still the same economy? I have new NGK Iridium plugs and new wires, cap and rotor, and still the same. just wondering if anyone has anything else to check or if no egr will cuase that much of a difference?

It shouldn't unless you have a leak from removing it... could be egr intake mani side, or exhaust side.

Easy thing to do is either check for leaks or reinstall the egr and see what happened.

have you also checked the timing and o2 sensor?

what is the best way to check for leaks becuase i can't hear any leaks? and I have replaced the o2, i have checked the timing, but last time when i checked it, i had to advance the distributor all the way to the stop, so i was wondering if the distributor could be installed wrong?

would that cuase a problem though, becuase the timing was correct but the dist. was turned all the way to the stop? there should still be more room right?

well if the timing's right, then don't sweat it. There's something else that's more fundamental to a mileage issue...how's your driving style?

i usaully shift around 3 grand, and use the cruise as much as possible. i just dont know what could be cuasing the problem, costing alot of money at $3 a gallon.

3/gallon's a walk in the park man. I'm coughing up anywhere between 3.50-3.70/gallon.

lots of stop and go or more steady moving?

sorry for your $3.50 that would suck. but most of it is highway. usually to and from work like 10 miles.

21mpg is still ball park for what the ka24e was spec'ed for. 20 city/25 highway. Only other thing I can think of is just a leak somewhere. But even in that situation, you would feel something's wrong at idle. The usual suspects for fuel consumption - cts, timing, tps, and mafs. I'd probably give the mafs a hose down with some carb cleaner, replace the cts, check the tps' voltages, and make sure that timing's dead on.

definately sounds like a leak, escpecially the part about the timing. I had a leak in my manifold from that stupid egr valve and it screwed with my timing, but to check for a leak run your engine and open up a bottle of propane and hold it close to any vacuum ports for a few seconds, and mainly the intake manifold where the egr used to be. if your idle changes while your holding it somewhere then that's where your leak is. carb and throttle body cleaner also work for this. a leak will definatley ruin mileage so hopefully theres a leak so you can get your mileage back easy.
