I had a problem with my 93 nissan 240sx about 2 weeks ago. I have an aftermarket hood with a big scoop on it. and 2 weeks ago it rained heavily overnite. I went to the car in the mourning and i could hear a humming sound almost like the sound of clippers. I started the car up and the engine was shaking and it was blowing smoke. it smelt very rich (fuel). It was running perfectly the night b4. so i shut it down and went under the hood and the humming sound was coming from the fuse box. i opened it up and it was the EGI relay that was humming. I touched it and it was vibrating like a pager. I bought a new relay and put it in and that one hummed to. So i let it dry for a few hours and put the original one back in and it no longer hummed. When i tried to drive the car to the shop it felt like it had no power. it eventually stalled and kept stalling halfway to the shop so i towed it. come to find out my #2 injector went and it was shooting so much fuel into the cylinder #2 that it wasn't burning up until it got to the cat. So i was basically running on 3 cylinders. I had a new one put on and it ran fine. Then just this mourning it rained last night and i went out to hear that damn humming sound again. I started it up and it was acting up just like it did last time. so i towed it to the shop and i called them later to find out that nothing was wrong with it he said. All the injectors were fine. So i was driving it home and suddenly the check engine light came on and it started running like **** again halfway back. like it was on 3 cylinders. So i parked it in the driveway and covered up the scoop with a tarp. But its been making that humming sound all day. I dunno WTF is wrong with it now. and i dunno what to do. I know that replacing the relay won't do **** so its not the actual relay thats messed up. I'm wondering if my electrical system is permenately messed up or if its just messed cause of the water. after all my distributor is right under the scoop. ANY1 have any idea what that humming sound is and if my electrical is messed or if its just the water affecting it.....PLEASE HELP!!

did you happen to see which realy it was for?because relay wouldn't act like that unless you have a short. If you take the relay out and find out which pins are your main coil and hook up a volt meter on where the relay would go in, do you get a voltage across it with the key on the on position? Will the car starts if you take the relay out?

the car still started and when i take the relay out and put it back in it stops humming, but it starts back up shortly. It seems it only does it when its wet out.....which it has been for the past 3 days. I think when it dries up it won't hum....but i dunno if the cars still gonna run messed up ......just tryin to ease a little worry

after refering to chilton 's EGI relay goes directly to your efi system. Most manuals refer to it as E.C.C.S relay

Also I noted that your distributor was right underneath the hood. I had that happened to me where it would drive fine, and for no reason it would loose power and would eventually die. My remedy was go to a junk yard and try a different distributor, other wise it runs around 250 new. I don't know how accessable it is for you, but I rebuild salvage cars for a hobby and I know a lot of junk/salvage lot and they basically lets me try the parts make sure it fixes the problem and return it at no extra charge
