I have a 97 240sx. I was driving on the freeway 70MPH and all of a sudden my engine stops, RPMs drop to zero, but electrical still works. Get it towed back home.
Next day I look at the fuse box and see the EGI fuse is blown, I replace it with another 7.5 fuse and drive less than a mile to get more. On the way back engine dies again at a stop light at idle and EGI fuse is blown. So I say Ha ha, I got a box of these fuses and I put one in. Immediately pops. I turn off the engine and take out the key. Fuse immediately pops.
Pop like 4 of them before I start pushing the car through an intersection with another guy that stopped to help.
It is absolutely random. I patched up the harness where the fuel injector goes around the front of the block, car starts, drive around the parking lot, I turn it off and the car does not start again. Fuse dead again.
I pulled the head light harness from the radiator support, replaced the EGI fuse and it started and is working for now. I rear ended somebody a month earlier, so the head light harness is suspect, but can that blow the EGI fuse?
So how do I test where the short is and where in the harness can affect the EGI fuse? What sort of procedure and tools do I need and where should I start? Or is it possibly something different?
Thanks
