When I had my turbine sensor replaced by the Portland (Beaverton) dealer, the tech (trained on 1990 model from day one) mentioned the transmission was 1½-2qts. overfilled by the previous dealer who had performed a BG fluid exchange.

I never checked (bad me) because I never noticed any misbehavior in the 5K mi. I've driven the car with that condition. So what are the effects of over filling? Is this a viable strategy to lessen temperature and wear and extend transmission life?

Comments please from Professor Mike and Q45tech.

The BG machine with the old bladder design did seem to over fill by 1-1.5 pints not quarts. We cuurrently remove 33-35 ounces and put it aside then add the 12 ounces of conditioner and zero in on the correct reading with the reserve.too much ATF will causes foaming and air bubbles and may increase the friction losses in the planetary gears. There is a vent atop the tranny case to blow out excess and air.

I will email JATCO and ask always takes a week or two for them to answer......bring it back up.

I'm sure there are downsides.

Thanks Dennis. I was afraid of excess aeration, but the problem is cured now. Did not see any blow by, but coincidentally did have a leaking turbine sensor replaced.

Hi, Maxnix and Q45tech.

Any further words on this yet? I am also curious about the effects of too much ATF!
