You could have got to school, parked, and went about your business only to have someone accidentally run into your car while you are getting your learn on, and not have the courtesy to leave any info on it.
Or it could have burned down... cause of fire unknown.... that would suck.
Try and be positive ^^
Good Luck and keep us posted!
Is this an s13 or s14? This could be a blessing in disguise... Why not temporarily swap in a stock exhaust cam for 248/248 on s13 or 248/232 for s14?alex_roe wrote:i was thinking about rebuilding, but the cams i wanna get alone are $500
i should just go with an SR swap

Yeah, a blessing, like maybe you bent a couple valves in that huge bang you heard and need a whole new head. If you're gonna swap, do it nowalex_roe wrote:so i go to start up my car today to get to school, and i hear a loud bang after bout 10 seconds of having it on...
opened the hood, and my intake cam was snapped in half!!!!
no, lol, sorry, im VERY broad with explanationsOutToWinPAHC wrote:Just from opening the hood you knew the intake cam was broken?
And if it did break a cam swap is not a way to go. Its an interference engine, so its has valve damage at least.
its funny because i actually just replaced a head gasket last month, and my oil looked just like it does now, all over again!sebazztard wrote:damn dude, that oil looks milky. i dont think a cam is going to fix this lol. time for overhaul. get yourself a de replacement and start rebuilding this for a ka-t build
The more important thing you need to ask yourself is how you can just open the hood and see your cam, wtf happened to your valve cover?alex_roe wrote:opened the hood, and my intake cam was snapped in half!!!

i took off my valve cover?lol, like i said, i give very broad explanationsddgsxr504 wrote:

No I get it, I'm just ball bustin. Seriously though, what made you think to look there?alex_roe wrote:

Timing chain slip, timing chain go by-bye, um, anything involved in timing, really...Maybe he had excessive chain rattle and couldn't hear it over teh VROOM VROOM!!!white90esex wrote:damn, how the hell does something like that happen.
I did pry at the camshaft to get it off, but i didn't apply much force. Perhaps i torqued the bolts incorrectly?Naloos13 wrote:When you replaced the head gasket, you probably pried up on the cam to pop it out and probably weakened/cracked the cam. Ive seen that one happen like 5 times. Only they actually snap completely right then and there.
Say goodbye to that motor.
The guy who suggested this is right. You're supposed to twist and spin the cam out of place once it's unbolted. Maybe you also tightened them past 10 ft lb (i think is the value), adding to the stress to turn the cam at that particular point.alex_roe wrote:

Again I love to point out that most SR's come from wrecked cars in JDM land. Unless its a S15 SR20DET its going to be in the range of 18-11 years old. Don't buy an SR and think its a good new motor. It could be used and abused and also on its way out. If you do go this route, please rebuild it.alex_roe wrote:

so here's what im trying to decide...pay the cash for a rebuild...or buy SR swap
EDIT:I think I'm going with the swap ^_^
This is the exact same logic that makes me disregard SR swaps in my case. If you're gonna rebuild a motor, you might as well rebuild/fortify the one you've already got and turbo it rather than spend $2000 on a JDM motor and rebuild costs ontop of that. But whatever floats your boat, I guess...OutToWinPAHC wrote:
