hey everyone. I'm Zepp and I need to learn some stuff about the CA before I decide to purchase one. first off, I know about the IRON block, which is one reason I think highly of CA's, another is the mass amounts of horsepower that can be generated from these 1.8 liter powerhouses... so just fill me in on some stuff. I know they have a timing belt instead of chain, and a t25 stock, but other than that I'm blank. do they have coil packs or plug wires? how much boost will stock internals hold? is it easier to put one in an s13 or s14? I need some info, because my KA is getting very close to dying... in fact on most mornings I have to crank it 4 or 5 times to get it to even start up. all crap aside I have abused my engine and I need a new one, but seeing as I refuse to stay N/A all my life, I want a ca. so any help would be great, thanksZepp

First, I'll cut to the chase and say SEARCH, SEARCH, SEARCH. These aren't exactly obtuse or arcane questions; they get asked and answered at least once a week.

Having said that, I won't be a d!ck and leave you without any useful info.

1)CAs have coil packs.

2)Stock internals aside, its a common complaint that the stock head gasket is unlikely to hold after 300-320HP. YMMV.

3)The engine came in the S13, which to me says that its the easier choice. This is Nissan though, champion (well, after Ford) of the shared parts bin strategy, so I can't imagine there's much difference. Its been done both ways.

There are more complete answers to all of these questions here. Search away.

search I did, and found it was. Thanks for help, also there was one thing I could not find info on, that was the CA a/c bracket, now I probably will be ordering from boost_boy, but he didn't reply to my questions yet, so do most ca motorsets come with the ac bracket? and would it be possible to put the ka ac on the ca bracket? I know this feels like amature hour, and it should cause I don't know jack about CA's, thanksZepp

My CA (which came from boost_boy, btw) came with the A/C pump attached, so the bracket was obviously there as well.

You can use a SOHC KA pump but you need to swap the pulley off of a CA pump onto it, which apparently requires some magical tool that only Nissan dealerships posess. DOHC KA pumps don't fit at all.

I haven't tried either of these myself as my CA is on a stand and my KA is on the garage floor right now.
