Before i think about changing a decent intake setup, i was wondering which is the bottleneck, the manifold/head or an injen cai? I am hoping to make a custom manifold, and i dont want a cai restricting flow into all my hard work. at the same time, if the ka manifold and head is already a high flow monster <unlikely> i dont want to mess it up. let me know if anyone has info on this. this is for na, and never to go ka turbo....-Enzo

edit:not to make another post, ill tack on my next questions/i did a bunch of searching but info on NA DE manifolds is sketchy at best. ITB is just too expensive and i want to stick with stock ecu and safc/retune setup, <standalone=$$>sooo, im thinking of picking up an s13 intake manifold and hacking it up. im thinking of cutting off the runner, and doing short runner/air horns in a surge tank, with a single TB/MAFS <to stay with ecu...>if i kept all the stock sensor and all that jazz, would this work? sadly i dont have my car here at college so i cant look at the manifold to figure this out and draw it all.... the only things im afraid off is stock tb bottlenecking the system, or confusing the ecu senselessly...-Enzoooo

the manifold is the biggest restriction.

and another q: what fittings, other than fuel rail and injectors, are needed for a dohc manifold?also <sorry>: im planning to put the mafs away from the tb, near the filter <maybe 6" from tb> because i heard a sheetmetal/tube manifold might cause reversion or other flow that would thoroughly confuse the mafs. good idea? <this is the ka mafs as of now, dont know if it warrants a cobra/z32 mafs><inhale>sorry for rambling, not like anyone answered the first one hahaha. 'cept dem. ty man. -Enzo

Why do you think there will be a problem welding onto the cast intake manifold? it should be fine if the correct welding wire/filling material is used.
