I don't know to much about your buddy's problem with his tuner chip(something hooked up wrong or maybe a bad chip out of the box), but I do know that if he is not careful and he pushes it to hard he will stretch the factory rubber head bolts on his truck.

I own a 6.0 powerstroke and love it, but I'm currently replacing the rubber factory hardware with some arp goodness.

Another suggestion of something your buddy can do to improve the reliability of the truck is to block off the egr, as the egr coolers are known for going bad and killing trucks.

i used to sell hundreds of those units. they probably need to update the program in the edge. set it back to the factory settings.

DON'T CHIP YOUR 6.0 LITER FORD!

They are programmed at 90% capacity from the factory and if you put a chip on them you will surely blow a head gasket or a number of other things. The 6.0 engine was basically a failure. Some do OK if they are left stock.

That being said I have an Edge on my 7.3 and I love it. I highly recommend them.

A good site for Ford info is http://www.ford-trucks.com.
