Hey guys, I just got a nissan consult cable with ftdi so it works over usb. The problem is no matter what application I use I cannot communicate with the ECU, but if I select the Transmission controller I can communicate with that perfectly. It will connect to the ECU but it can't grab any data from it. It has me stumped and was just wondering if anyone could give some advice on the issue?

Programs tried: Nissan datascan, OBD Scantech, calumsult, ecutalk.

Check this out... maybe you need to update your drivers?

Thanks but I had already updated to the latest drivers from the vendor. It just has me stumped. Perhaps the previous owner has the ecu in diagnostic mode. Would that prevent it from communicating?

Also I can't put the car into programming mode for a new key fob, I think it might have something to do with the LAN as two of my doors power window amps have carked it (I can wind the window up and down with the key out of ignition). I'll take the amps out and repair them and see if that was preventing me from connecting to the ecu (it's a longshot i know).

I really do appreciate the help from you guys as I'm in Australia and it's quite a rare car here.

I would certainly check the ECU screw to see if it's in diagnostic mode, or set somewhere inbetween modes...

I remember back in the day when these started becoming popular that that there were some combinations that didn't work with the later ECUs.. I think it was the serial ones, or maybe using a USB to serial converter. Heath, do you remember anything about that? I'll see if I can dig up some old threads, but there's definitely stuff here on the board.

From what I could read up on it, the non ftdi serial to usb adapters were the problem for most guys specifically the drivers and getting them to work. I don't seem to have these problems as the a/t controller communicates perfectly. While i'm at it I may do a rewrite on the howto for repairing the power window amps as the old one seems to have no pictures. I'll keep at it and if I fix it will report back.

Cheers

Just got rear ended. Because of the rarity of the car and the fact i'm in australia I think it will be classed as a financial writeoff. FML

I managed to find another 1994 q45 with only 150,000 ks on the clock for $4000 so when the insurance pays me out (i'm fighting for about $6000 as the car was impeccable) I should have enough to buy it. The wheels alone are worth $2000 here so I hope it all pans out. Sorry for bumping my own post with updates but I'm pretty shattered about what has happened. Project VIP will be resurrected

That's great news! When my first Q was totaled, I was able to buy the car back from the insurance company for the price they were getting from the salvage yard. If your wheels are that valuable (and they probably aren't taking that into account at the yard) then I'd buy it back and scavenge parts off of it - then sell her for scrap. If it's a standard Q45 (no traction control) then the throttle body can sell for about $130 here on eBay. The tuners use them on Supra builds (among others). It might be worth having on hand as a parts car anyway if you have a place to store it.

Funny you should say that as the wreck had traction control but the new q45 i found doesn't. The stereo is also the other way around compared to mine :S.
The plan is to strip the wreck of everything useful and keep the parts in the shed for any aussies who need parts.
Here is the damage - the entire chassis has been twisted and pushed forward.

Great news guys. Got a new q45(base model) with 90,000 miles on the clock. Silver paint like old one with chrome wheel arches and grey interior. 3 small dents that will be repaired but overall the car is a 8/10. Wald bodykit is on the cards as well as 10 inch wide wheels
