I was wondering if there is just a chip that you can buy and install or if you must do the entire ECU upgrade and reprogram. I can't have my car down for a long time waiting for someone to re program my ECU. I've got a '91 h/b SE, could I buy someone else's ECU and send that one in for reprograming then swap with mine? Thanks y'ns.

California ECUs were different from Federal ECUs. Convertibles used different ECUs. The s13 DOHC ('91-'94) was wired quite differently from the SOHC ('89-'90), including the ECU.

If you buy another ECU...I personally don't know what differences matter - or don't matter - to JWT, but it seems like an easy way to avoid hassle is to get one that matches what you already have.

Here's the same link I posted in another thread, in case you wanted to check the numbers on a salvage yard ECU:http://www.online240.net/specs/s13_ECU_ID.html

http://www.car-part.com is an easy way to locate used parts.
