Ok im going to drop in a non turbo sr20de and b4 I actually drop it in im going to upgrade all the components.

I was wondering what performance parts would require a ECU tune so that the engine runs smoothly. (IE injectors, or Bored out intake manifold) This would greatly help me please respond.

maybe I'm wrong but wouldnt a sr20de be slower than a ka?

Sorry I did not answer your question... I'm not sure what the answer is ... I was just curious as to why you would swap the ka for the sr20de?

Yeah I think the horsepower tested at crank or flywheel is like 158 im not sure about the wheels. But, I dont think the rated 140 for a sohc would be at the wheels im sure that is a fly or crank rating also. So in theory I do believe the Silvia Q engine is faster even if it is slight.

The difference here is I can get a rebuilt ka24de for the price of a turbod engine or I can get a cheap *** 100,000 mile ka24de but my sohc already has 127,000 so whats the benefit.

If I purchase a immaculant Silvia Q engine it will cost me 1 G for everything wiring harness engine transmission yadda yadda even a set of performance headers on the bad boy already. With 37,000 miles on it. Even if its not a turbo engine it sure sounds alot better than the one Ive got right now.

In the end the possibilities are endless with the sr compared to the low performance development for the Ka engine. Thanks for the query though replies are welcome.

The Q's engine also has a better gearbox ratio than the KA so it could actually be faster.

YOu can also add on the head of a SR20VE or was it a SR16VE that fits. Anyways, one of the two will fit and voila, NEOVVL and i'm sure you can up the compression and hit some numbers close to the 200 crank HP range.

You will not be in desperate need of ECU tuning until you start to dramatically change the characteristics of the motor (Cams, turbo, injectors, compression, etc.). However, simply changing the exhaust can be enough to make the stock program inaccurate. And FYI, the 'low performance KA' as you called it has a lot of guys hitting 400+ horsepower, so it may not be a bad option (and certainly cheaper, or better in the end), to build up your KA. Even if you don't want to boost, 250-300Hp is attainable with the right parts and tuning.
