Here's something I've been thinking about over the last few years. Whether it's for the KA or LS1 I'd like to figure out what "factory" ecu's would make good swaps. For instance, a guy on here forever ago spliced in a Talon/Eclipse ECU and simply used the Mitsu sensors and injectors. IIRC it was only a 3 day job and at finish he had a perfect idle, 440's and the ability to run 1 bar of boost all day with NO tuning. For the price of junkyard ecu's and a few used sensors, this may be a very worth while mod.

If we can list some decent ecu's, I'll go through and get the wiring diagrams and we can all swap ecu's around by proxy. Sound like a good idea?

Of course you guys are more then welcome to contribute to the wiring etc...hint hint. This will make a great addition to the sticky as well as a great resource WEB wide.

sounds like a good post to me. Although, how are we going to find good swaps? Trial and error? I'm kinda confused by how we find good swaps.

They don't have to be known good foolio. Just a listing of 4 cyl turbo ecu's and which ones are worth a crap. Which ones use a decent MAFS etc. Something that would be an easy and workable swap. Even a V8 ECU would work if you run 8 injectors and figure out the firing order.

Well I know that at Hybridka, They have made some huge advancements on the SOHC ECU. Which is very well done for Rom tuning.

I plan on having Tomek and me test a lot of the new features out on his car. But I don't see why with a little bit of work the SOHC ecu can't be taken and adjusted for like the SR, DOHC KA, etc etc.

As for the V8 ecu's since there is people out there that have the full code cracked for them, it shouldn't be that hard to rewrite the injector drivers disabling 4 of them, or even having it enable them at certain points.

Il definitely do some more research on this and report back ...

stanza ecu sorry had to wd... I use it so its great, for dohc and sohc.

ok quad 4 gm ecus are supposed to be easy to tune and map based...

also grand national ecus are able to switch to 4/6/8 cylinders so how many injectors would be a matter of wiring... also map based.

dont laugh at this one, I've thought about a honda ecu for its map use, would be simple matters of sensor swaps and wiring again. basically any ecu can run any car if the code has been hacked enough to change stuff around, right now gabe is working on the whole gm cts conversion and a cts for ait conversion... be real good when map comes into play, then everyone will want a step down stanza ecu.

cost would come into play here still, all the junkyard parts would get pricey after a harness with all sensor and an ecu, you may be close to m/s prices at some yards..... I know one right now it would cost 400 dollars for a harness/sensors/ecu robbery, legally

OK fellas. I'm not talking about which ones can get modded or chipped the easiest. I want to go to the JY, grab the ecu, wire it up, swap a sensor or two and be done. If I wanted to reprogram a ECU I wouldn't be rewiring a different factory unit...I'd just install a standalone.

where you been? I really should have made a thread in the kat forum sohc on dohc handled! been running with SUCCESS for a good bit now. setup was stanza ecu/maf dohc injectors and dizzy and rest of the stuff, n/a for like 2~3 months, boosted now with z32maf and de injectors, drove with sohc maf for a while boosted without issues.

dizzy needs to be clocked or slotted out to make the dizzy signal usable, feedback control also needs to be changed to the de value rather than the e value. from there its input the de maf vq or wire in a sohc/other maf and adjust for it...

this is by far the cheapest way to go for rom tuning a ka motor. with wideband I'm under the cost of a new neo afc. It works too says the 1000+ miles of boosted abuse. Its one chip vs 2 for a d/board, a socket and 3 chips is less than the d/board itself before chips or zif sockets.... I'm cheap muther funker so I made the sohc stuff laying around work.

if you want to have a look at the .bin file its on hybrid in the rom section, its for t25 sohc maf and de injectors at like 60psi. I need to update that to my z32 bin when I get finished.

act like I didnt say what Ive posted in all the ecu threads I've seen, I'm here, I bring it up everytime. wd acted like it was all garbage so I didnt make a thread

really I'm too lazy to give you guys all the info, you need to do the work yourself nah its on hybrid what to do, fools need to get on the rest of the net. if I'm the slacker with the tuned ecu for under a hundred dollar call me slacker, make my title that too, d!ck owes me another title anyways

this has already been done w/ an SR20DET ECU I know.

4cyl turbos that I can think of in the US that may be interchangeable.

84-90 Dodge daytona IROC R/T

mistu starion/Tsi conquest

Saab 9-3

There are ALOT of factors that make this a PITA.. the engine has to be an even fire, EFI based, 4 cyl turbo.

What's wrong w/ the DSM or SR20DET ECU swaps WD? I cant pass a junkyard here without seeing a DSM shell.

I think the DSM ecu would work great, actually I think it has been done.

I don't suggest SR20DET ecu because they aren't in the JY.

true but in the nature of this endeavor they can be had for cheap. some quick checking will verify if they will plug directly in to the oem harness w/ some rewiring.

on The DSM ecu swap I am assuming they had to get the harness AND ECU.

SR20/CA18 ECU may be a cheaper option.

I know you can't just walk to a junk yard and get one but they're almost always available and cheap to boot.

just a thought.

emo time, I hate you wd! I may just go slit..........

ask what you want to know about it. I wont hide anything guys like I said its ALL posted on hybridka. We have tried to get ecu tuning threads going before in the ka section IIRC they fail, why well cause everyone has diff ideas abou tuning, look at wd afc and btm 2 weeks ago thats all he could say. today he wants a "pnp turbo 4banger ecu that he doesnt have to tune" lol not really gonna happen, you gonna have to tune something to get it working. diff turbo/diff dwell time/ diff everything, it does get a slight bit more involved wd.

sr great option though, code has been hacked for 20 friggin years now, and its a boost controlling, COP ecu which is great for boost IMHO, bigger gap ftw. But again things are not all gonna "just work" you think my stanza ecu thing just worked? hell no it took days of thinking and trying, then I wok eup and realized the feedback control has something to do with how the dizzy signal is read swithced to de value and the car didnt sound like a huge detonation, got my timing worked out by makign the entire map 15* and reving the piss out of it to make sure nothing changed. Made custom maps for fuel and timing using de timing ques and e fueling ques then had to 0 out ait sensor and unhook knock sensor(hint its into the ait sensor pins on e ecu).... it wasnt a caekwalk

Yah Iv been following hybrid for a while, and there is some awesome things happening there, Im really looking forward to the map conversion wooot.

I guess a lot of people just don't realize what could be done with other ECU's and their own. As for looking into the Honda ECU's, I don't think of that as a bad idea at all. For instance Hondata, we got one running in my buddies prelude that thing is mad ****in sweet. With auto tune option and everything.

As for WD changing his mind on differ tuning systems day to day. Well it's probably cause his got about 45 differ project started LOL.

One day his going to create a ****in Transformer out of his S14 with out even realizing it hehe.

It HAS been done, and it is what I'm going to do when I finally turbo my car...I live in Oklahoma City, and there is a local race shop called Abel Racing. They take the DSM ECU, sensors, CAS, and wire it into the Nissan harness. I remember them saying that the distributorless ignition is the hardest thing to set up.There are 3 cars that I know of here in OKC that are currently running this setup.Efeezi, Elks240, and Supernoob are all from OKC and are on the KA-t.org forums. You might have noticed that Efeezi just broke the KA record with 725hp...Efeezi and Supernoob are running E85 ethanol which requires a chip tune on the DSM ecu.But for a stock MAF, stock DSM injector setup, you can see around 250hp or so.

The main reason I'm going with the DSM setup is for the active timing retard that the ecu employs to try and save the motor in the event of lean conditions.

I've already pulled the harness and ecu and everything out of a turbo DSM and it's sitting in my garage. The swap over to the DSM ecu is $600, and about 4 days of downtime.

It can be done...

I think the only ECU I would probably swap in at this point would be a DSM ECU. Efeezi just made 726whp on a DSM ECU. A DSM ECU, 2G MAFS and SAFC would probably be a perfect ****ing match for a 50trim, 400whp setup. I would buy a set of lower CR forged pistons and call it a day on pump gas if I was going for 400whp and stop.

The DSM is a 2.2 liter, right? I used to have a dodge daytona (precursor to the dsm) and it was a 2.2.. Anyway, I think the displacement would have to be as close to 2.4l as possible, if you are using the factory side injectors and maf from that ecu. What do you think?

DSM = 2.0 liter stock.
