I posted this in tech and got ignored So need yalls knowledge(which is better anyways)Did a sohc to dohc swap...Tried to start the car and nothing. Fuel pump was bad....Swapped with working one and it didn't turn on... So I ran a direct ground and positive to the battery with a toggle switch....Car started up and ran for about 5 seconds then died...Tried to start again and lost all power(DEAD BATTERY)Got a brand new battery and my friend was installign it while I was wrapping tape around the fuel pump wires...a wrench was dropped and the positive grounded and sparks flew....Didn't find any fuses blown but replaced with ones out of my car nonetheless. Car has no spark.... Replaced with coil and ignitor from my car...nothing...Put my ecu in and still nothing......Any ideas???

There was some other issues....but I fixed what I could see (2wires) and the car was running... then the battery sparked due to a wrench in between the post....ECU led does not light up....What power/ground go to the ecu???The relay box by the battery all checked out fine...anywhere else to check or do I have a melted wire somewhere?? I'm about ready to rewire the whole car...because nothing works like factory....

To tell you the truth, dropping a wrench in between the posts shouldn't damage the car too much, at least I don't think it should. I would think none of the wiring would be damaged, now if you dropped it between a positive wire and a ground, making a short, then I would be worried. Is the battery OK after that? Check all your power wires with a multi-meter and known good ground, then compare against their supposod ground. I hate electrical problems, sorry man, I feel your pain.

My understanding of electicity is that it will take the path of least resistance. I fail to see how shorting + post to ground would send current anywhere but through the wrench. Especially given that no other circuits were completed by what you did.

What is the car doing? Is it cranking or just no spark? Can you be more specific?

Car has no spark ecu has no power, key was turned in on position when this happened. He said he was done and I was checking something and next thing I knew saw the wrench and sparks.. I beleive the one wrench was touching the chassis and the negative terminal

HAHAHAHA...dude, what are you thinking having the battery hooked up when you're doing a job like this? The battery always gets disconnected first and reconnected last. No exception ever...

Is the ecu getting power to it? If it is and you get nothing, try swapping in a ecu. Make SURE you don't have any ghetto rigging arcing or grounded out.

Run a wire from the ECU - to the chassis and run a wire from battery + to the proper ECU pin.

Does the car crank? You could have shorted the battery.

Ok Has any one caught the fact the the car started and ran for a few when he directly wired in the battery and then battery completely died. To me from past experience, and actually recently too, it was on a friends civic, It sounds like the wiring from the alternator to battery to starter is messed up.

Unless you are still running direct connection with the battery, all three of those things are wired in together and if something is wrong with a ground or anything of that sort between the three, nothing will work.

Everything was working. Not there is just no power to the ecu. Yes it has been swapped. Fuses have been checked. Ecu that was in the car has been put in another car and works fine. Was guessing that the wire harness melted.......All lights and turn signals etc work.

Forget the little wrench misshap - all it did was blew a pit in the wrench.

I would get the wiring schematics for both cars and compare. I'm fairly sure there are some differences. I know MAF swaps and such have different wiring proceedure for E and DE motors. I'd look at that before looking for a problem. What is the most likely when you swapped an ECU from one motor to a different motor, compatability or a malfunction? I'd check comapatability first.

Then why did I have no problems prior to it. Car started on the first turn of the key.... then after the wrench no power to the ecu. All dash controls work, lights work, just no power to ecu so no spark or anything... Engine would still turn over.....

Check your grounds at the firewall to the engine. One of them runs straight to the ECU on the DOHC.

Replaced all the fuses, and checked all the grounds.... Car is just a chassis now, my friend spun a rod bearing so I gave him the engine. Couldn't track down another wiring harness.... Going to become an rb25 now... or vh45de

Keeping it auto isn't a bad thing, especially if you don't want to buy a transmission adapter...
