ecu screw turned clockwise???

So the repair manual says that you should turn the ecu screw counterclokwise when the vehicle is in use.... my question is what happen if i live the ecu's selector screw turned clokwise and use the car that way?

i believe if you leave it that way and turn the car on the codes will start blinking through your dash through your check engine light
