ECU safe mode?

i checked my codes on my ecu today and i got a 41 = Intake Air temperature sensor. i have an early kae with the 8.6:1 comp. ratio and i am kae-t. so i dont have my sensor hooked up at all. will the ecu go into a safe mode if this code is present? and when it is in safe mode will it run rich fuel maps? can i just use some type of resistor in place of the sensor and not throw a code?
