Hi, new to forum. I have a 1994 Q45 Base and interested in getting a modded ECU. I have been in touch with Wes about the NICO ECU. I still have a few questions-

90-93 ECU's will work on 94-95, but 94-95 aren't accepted as core exchange- I believe this is due to 8-bit vs 16 bit design. Q: Does going to 8-bit ECU affect 1994-5 in any way?

What is the difference between JWT and NICO ECU's as far as normal driveablity? I know there is a stage III setting on the NICO, which equals approx +10 hp. NICO rpm 7400, JWT 7200(?)

As far as I'm concerned, I rather leave it at one setting and not mess with it.

More low end or mid range power would be nice, high end power where i'm having to put my foot in it means im using much more gas.

Thanks for the help. Also, if anyone is selling an NICO or JWT ECU, please let me know (Sorry, Wes, but these times they are a tryin')

Oh, one more thing, my front seats are tore up. Any recommendations on good seat covers?

Thanks,
Charlie

Charlie - Welcome to NICO.

I have the previous generation NICO with the Stage 2 and Stage 3 options. I like it and feel the difference when I switch into Stage 3.

Have you compared the price difference between ECUs?

Unless you are going for a jwt nos set up nico is the way to go. I have had both the nico is far better for performance but will not support nos.

Has the NICO ECU ever been actually dyno tested? I have access to a dyno locally and was going to pick up a NICO ECU from Wes and run with the stock ECU, then see Stage 2 and Stage 3 and see what the real world gains are. I havent seen any dyno graphs or anything, so Im not sure that the ECU has ever even been 100% tested for real world gains.

No, those were not meant to be fighting words. It was a legitimate question that I was wanting to know. I am going to be buying the ECU from Wes and have not seen any dyno graphs or anything posted, or any dyno info for that matter. Which is why I said I will be doing a dyno pull with the stock ECU, Stage 2 and Stage 3 to see real world gains.

A member named QSIGUY posted several graphs on the NICO ECU. Though I can't remember where the posts were located. I guess you can search on QSIGUY to find his posts on it.

Here's one of QSIGUY's videos..I think he had his kicked up and gassed..

That's in part because dynamometers do not take place in wind tunnels, so dual pass timed runs tell you more. Q45tech did this extensively.
