Many Max owners claim resetting the ECU will instantly give much better performance, is this true? Since the ECU is constantly variable and "learns" your driving style, why would we have to reset it manually for it to "re-learn" (assume no new mods are installed)

In addition to reset the ECU, I heard you can reset the Accelerator Pedal Release Position, Throttle Valve Closed Position as well as Idle Air Volume Learning... will these settings ever get messed up which require a reset?

Any inputs appreciated...

By resetting the ECU, you are basically restoring the computer to the factory defualts. Whether this provides any performance gain, I couldn't tell you. It may feel that way, due to mods on a factory tune.

The ECU does more than just learn your driving style. It makes adjustments based on airflow, timing, etc. In certain circumstances it may be possible to get better power from a reset, but at somepoint afterward it should go right back.

Since I've never seen a dyno prove this, I find it hard to trust. Butt dyno's simply don't count.

So there is really no reason to reset the ECU unless mods are made and you want the computer "learns" more quickly, or to clear codes? Even if you don't, the computer will eventually learn it, correct?

Why Nissan made the options to reset the Accelerator Pedal Release Position, Throttle Valve Closed Position as well as Idle Air Volume Learning?

That I don't have an answer for as I've never looked into it.

The accelerator pedal method applies to 5th and 6th Gen, so it should work. Did you use a stop watch?

For 4th gen, I believe there is a a screw on the side of the ECU covered by a piece of tape and you turn to reset it. Another method is to disconnect the battery and leave it overnight, should be easier.
