ECU reset screw

so if you are reset'n ur ECU the right way; you take ur ECU out and turn the little knob clockwise then counter clockwise right???my question is which way should the screw be after you are done? i had mine turned all the way counter clockwise thinking thas factory setting but the car runs like poop, running on not enough cylinders, soundin like a WRX..so i turned it clockwise and it runs and sounds just like a RB should...is my ECU backwards or is it right??? thanx
