I just did the ECU reset, and I'm not sure it worked. I didn't have any lights on, but some have recommended doing it after mods. The lights flashed as indicated in the procedure. What are some signs that it worked? Should the trip miles be reset?

There has been long discussions on whether this actually does anything or if it just resets a check engine light. Some guys with the automatics say they notice a difference in shifting, but I didn't notice anything when I did my mod installs.

what i have noticed is in a successful ecu flash your rev limit will reset to 8000 rpms

I believe he is confused on what we are talking about. A simple ecu reset is not going to allow you to rev to 8000rpm. The ecu would have to be reprogrammed in order for that to work.

I did some research online, and although I couldn't find specifics about resetting a G35 ECU, I did find some general info (should be applicable, all ECU's are the same technology). Again, this is what I read, might be completely wrong. But resetting the ECU causes it to re-evaluate the cars power, shifting, etc. So if you modify the car, and then reset, the ECU might notice the difference and adjust things accordingly. So if you did heavy modifications, and reset the ECU, it may modify the parameters and let you rev to 8000 rpms.

One thing I do know though, is don't confuse resetting ECU with reprogramming or replacing. ECU is the "governor" that's often referred to in cars. The ECU programming determines the automatic transmission timing, rpms, etc. An ECU could be programed to tell the car to not leave 1st gear until you hit 8000 rpms (dunno why you'd want that, I'm just sayin). If you reprogrammed it, I'm positive you could get it to 8000 rpms

i'm not confused about wut u guys are talking about, i'm not saying a ecu flash will set a 8k redline lol i'm saying ur trip shift bar the red one under the REV limiter should reset to 8k rpm default. Also what i'm talking about is for the REV up motors and since joe has a 05 i just assumed he has a REV up motor that includes the red bar that flashes which can be set i.e to.... 8000 ( this does not mean your car can actually reach 8k redline to my knowledge its 6.6k right now redline for REV up motors)
