How do you...? HAHAHA

No the purpose of this thread isn't to ask how to, but to tell you about my positive experience in performing the two procedures.

On Friday before I left work, I reset the ECU and did the Throttle Release Learning procedure.

Both of them took all of 5 mins (including me messing up the ECU one once).

After I was done, I drove off and made sure to drive slightly aggressive (there was a lot of traffic with short clear portions of my drive, I didn't want the ECU to go into "Traffic mode").

The one thing I noticed was crisper throttle response and power lower in the power band. The whole weekend, I enjoyed the new found performance.

Prior to the reset, power lagged in the lower RPM range.

If any of you have done any bolt-ons or you bought the car used, I'd suggest trying this out. It can only help!!!

G_whizz, huh?

I think the combo of the plenum spacer and the previous owner made the reset more dramatic. For those who have finally gotten past their break-in period, this might be a good idea too.

Check out the FAQ, Sean. There are lots of goodies that you Noah, and Joe didn't tell each other about lol.

For the sake of safety, I keep VDC on. The last time I took it off, I almost slammed myself into a curb.

Bro, if I lived in sunny dry California, that would be shut off every time I started the car. Find a big abandoned parking lot, and learn how she handles with the VDC turned off.

Oops. I thought there was some sort of collaboration.

I need to get a some 18s to d!ck around in. The wife is out of work and I'm not about to burn through a few hundred worth of tires.

I need an intake. I can't stand this quiet engine s#it

Didn't you build one for your Maxima?

You could always build one out of CF. It's really just a slightly bent tube with a nipple sticking out in the middle...

Damned you NOAH!!! I was trying to let that idea go!

If I build an intake, I will probably do it from the scoop all the way to the throttle.

Actually, you just gave me an epiphany. I wanted to get a "legit" intake because I was trying to make the G more presentable than the I30, but since I'm fabricating all of this other stuff, why not an intake? All of the aftermarket stuff started somewhere.

Thanks Beanor!

Did anyone else witness my multiply personality disorder???

Finally, you are seeing the joys of flogging the G-35 Coupe. i told you that the ECU learns and relearns your driving pattern. I have been saying it for a while on this forum. The only thing is that you have to flog it routinely to keep it at that setting. The ECU uses the averages of your throttle input to determine where it keeps the cars performance and throttle response---can you say drive by wire? If you flog the G-35 Coupe on occassions on regular roads, it will last you for 200,000 miles---the car was designed for aggressive driving in mind. If you drive it like a grandma, it will last you longer. If you add a twin turbo, you are looking at 150,000 miles. If you add a superchager, you maybe looking at 160,000 or 170,000 miles. The question is, how long do you want to keep your G-35 , if newer and better models will be produced by the time your G hits these extreme mileage targets (just an estimation and approxiamtion, not fact).

The G-35 Coupe has far more complex engineering than most people would like to imagine. It is just that the engineering was made to appear simple, when in fact, it is not.

As for the VDC, I always drive with the VDC OFF, even in the rain, except in Brisdgestone tires. When i drive with the VDC ON, it is probably by accident when i forget. Far more exciting to drive with the VDC OFF.

I've just been to busy/lazy to do the procedure, but I'm very happy I did. Before doing it, I felt scared to pull any questionable maneuvers because my RPMs had to be overly precise, now I have more room and less lag.

Might be my imagination, but the car sounds better too.

As for how long to keep it. That depends on our stupid gas situation. If I knew who to complain to, I would. My wife is getting almost 30 MPG with city driving and her mods are limited to a CAI and axle back exhaust.

I did it, and thgere wasn't any real noticable difference. However Friday night when I installed the exhaust, the negative battery cable was unplugged for quite some time.

The thing that wasw noticable was the the car idles at about 200 RPM less.

Beanor, get them to adjust your timing so that your idle RPM is on 850 RPM or I think 2 degrees adjustment. did it to mine and its not bad at all.

It doesn't stick on our ECU's Jacko. I asked the tech at Nissan to do mine. He hooked up Consult2, set the base timing to 17º and saved the setting. Disconnected Consult2, and reconnected. Base timing was still at 17º. Disconnected it again, shut the car off, and started it. Reconnected Consult2, and base timing was 15º.

He did it on my '01 Maxima, and it stuck. The newer ECU's discard the info.
